COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
What began as mutual admiration between Sierra Nevadaís Grossman Family and Russian Riverís Cilurzos has grown and progressed into genuine friendship. Brux began as an idea and has grown into something altogether different:

The liquid manifestation of change over time.

Refermented in the bottle with Brettanomyces bruxellensis, Brux will change and develop over time. Copper-colored, dry and complex, with slightly tart notes of green grass, pear, spice and lemon - this ale will progress in the bottle for many years.

This is one tremendous beer. Pours a slightly hazy yellow. Barnyard funk greets the nose but does not overwhelm. The taste is sprightly with some funk and sour melding together. Some fruit notes tag along for the ride as well. Thanks to Sierra Nevada and Surly Goat for sharing.

750 ml. bottle. Consumed, almost literally, at the foot of Mt. Hood. Lively carbonation. Orange and yellow hues blend together. Foamy top, for a few minutes, and then the head recedes. Straw, fruit, yeast, and subtle brett aroma. The aroma is not very pungent. The flavor is dull and insipid. The brett is noticeable, but doesnít add as much as I thought it would. The fruity yeast flavor is decent, but doesnít tie into the theme very well. A sour ale? Iím not so sure Iíd agree with that, had this been a blind tasting. The crisp, dry texture is nice, but again, I feel like Iím drinking a saison here, or something other than a sour ale. I was expecting more from a collaboration of this magnitude, but not everything they both touch is going to be amazing. Iím a little let down, but Iím glad to have tried this. I may purchase another, and let it sit, but I donít want to have to wait for a couple of years, just for this to be relatively good.

Waiting for this one to age...I expect it to get substantially better. Right now itís very dry and not that funky, needs more time. Itís blonde in color with significant white head. As it is, itís very dry and only slightly sweet. Lots of carbonation. Pleasing, but Iíd suggest people wait for it to develop.

Bottle from Portland Bottle Shop with Carla. Pours a crystal clear gold with minimal foam that quickly disperses to none. Smells, dry and lightly sour of apple, banana and flanders red. Tastes mildly of banana with light earthy tones, hints of wheat and a mild sourness. Subtle, but tasty.

UPDATED: DEC 27, 2012 Let me precede this by saying, DO NOT DRINK THIS FRESH! Great citrusy, tart aroma which lets the drinker down by presenting a very weak flavor. Once again, I feel like I am doing this beer a disservice by rating it after no aging. Pours with little to no head and a copper color. Honestly canít wait to try this after a year or so of aging.

Free bottle at the Toronado, San Diego. Thanks! Hazy, light amber liquid with small to medium white head. Aroma of minty, fruit brett, barnyard, biscuit, cereal, spice and some noble hops. Taste is dry and light to medium bitter with notes of barnyard and fruit brett. Medium bodied with medium carbonation.

Bottle. Head barely shows up and then disappears quickly; very hazy bright orange-copper. Light leather, green apple skin, peach pith, and slight hay in the aroma. Peach pith, some grassiness, light fruits, hay, a little leather, some minerals, not catching any sweetness which is nice. Not very funky or sour at this point, but decently dry. Lighter body with bubbly carbonation.

Smells of marmalade, funk, and spice reminiscent of sage/coriander. Some wisps of baked bread. Orange, golden color with a finger of white head. Dies down to a patch of foam on top. Tastes of marmalade, pineapple, some stone fruits. Those are quickly washed away by brett funk, reminiscent of Orval (which has always reminded me of shellfish a bit). Also, some citrus notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Well carbonated. A touch spicy. Quite dry with a decent acidic and carbonic bite on the finish. Really nice. Refreshing. Great summer beer. Sort of a brighter, fresher Orval. Definitely gonna try it again.

750 ml bottle. Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with a small white head that disappears quickly and leaves no lacing. The aroma is green apple, apricot, and a light peppery note. There is a light funky brett earthiness, but not much. The initial taste is sweet with green apple, a bit of brett earthiness, and some apricot. The finish has a hint of brett and some lingering apple. Medium body. Low carbonation. This was quite disappointing. Itís too sweet for the style and there is not much brett funkiness. It will probably improve with time, but Iím not going to buy more bottles to find out given the price.

On tap 2 oz. sample at the Russian River brewpub in Santa Rosa, CA. Part of a 10 beer "Belgian Sampler," which is a bit much to try to keep straight, even with written notes. Clear straw color with white head and fair lacing. Fruity, sweet and sour aroma of citrus and yeast. Tart taste of pepper, spice, pear, citrus, yeast and biscuit malt. Medium/light body and high carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
