What began as mutual admiration between Sierra Nevadaís Grossman Family and Russian Riverís Cilurzos has grown and progressed into genuine friendship. Brux began as an idea and has grown into something altogether different:

The liquid manifestation of change over time.

Refermented in the bottle with Brettanomyces bruxellensis, Brux will change and develop over time. Copper-colored, dry and complex, with slightly tart notes of green grass, pear, spice and lemon - this ale will progress in the bottle for many years.

On tap 2 oz. sample at the Russian River brewpub in Santa Rosa, CA. Part of a 10 beer "Belgian Sampler," which is a bit much to try to keep straight, even with written notes. Clear straw color with white head and fair lacing. Fruity, sweet and sour aroma of citrus and yeast. Tart taste of pepper, spice, pear, citrus, yeast and biscuit malt. Medium/light body and high carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle that I took to a tasting at Andyís the day after doing a tasting at Paulís. Pours a hazed amber with a thin white head. Lemony, musk, and brett. Medium bodied, musky, lemon and a touch of wheat and toast. Not a lot going on here and I donít get much brett. Dries out a bit, a bit more musk and yeast. Iíd be interested to see how this changes in a year or so, if the brett gets more prominent, but I canít foresee buying another bottle, as this was stupid expensive.

7/17/12. 750mL bottle from Grassroots. How is this still on the shelves? A RR collab in Florida? Very slightly hazy dark orange/light amber pour with a huge off-white head that fades and laces in small, spotty rings. Somewhat light but definite Brett aspects in the aroma. We have some nice small funk, hay, green apples, lemon, and a light tartness. Dry entry with some pale malts, plenty of grassy and hay aspects, a touch of funk, and hints of tart lemons, apples, and apricots. Tasty and refreshing, but I was hoping for a bit more.

Bahdull. Pours an apple juice shade, any resulting head from the pour disappears too quickly to remember. Nose of apple and grape essence and white pepper with hints of floral brett character. I liked this beer when drunk at colder temps as the belgian yeast character is more pronounced as it warms, and Iíve grown to dislike the typical traits of most belgian yeast strains...but, even at warmer temps, they are not too forward here, so its only a slight distraction..in any event, its still a nice, clean, bretty but not too bretty beer and it comes across as nicely refreshing. Decent beer.

Bottle. Pours clear bright orange with a soft white head that dissipates to nothing, but gentle bubbles. Aroma is light tart lemons and straw and funk. Taste is subtle tartness and wild yeast with a good malty straw and grain backbone and funky pepper/spice aftertaste. Palate is thin and slick with gentle carbonation and a drying finish.

Pours a dirty light copper color with small soapy head. Aroma is typical belgian, some grassy hops, and some citrus notes. Taste is belgian spice, light grassy hops, and just the right amount of citrus and pear-like notes. Solid but I was hoping for some more tart or champagne-like characteristics.

dough and cheese aromas dominate; murky, lively straw-gold body with an airy white head and barely any lacing; sharp mouthfeel -- let it warm to a spritzy, creamy mouthfeel; subdued flavors of citrus, spice, and grain that leaves itself slightly acidic; good brew, will need to have a vintage however.

Bottle clear to hazy golden color, small white head. Aroma of slightly dusty straw. Taste is very slightly dusty hay. Pretty plain.

-Pours a hazy, yet luminous copper color with beautiful large bubble ivory head. The head is short lived and no lacing was noted. The aroma is tart, a little funky, and very inviting. The taste is lemon, pear, and spice. The finish is dry and crisp. There is a hint of pepper in the aftertaste. And did I forget to mention the word sour. Not overpowering but there all the same. The mouthfeel is medium-light and effervescent. An excellant beer. --Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
