Cask@The Rake, London. Deep ambery brown colour with a small off-white head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is caramel malts, mild crystal malts, some nutty notes as well as toasted and wooden notes. Flavour is caramel malts, some mild nuttyness and toasted notes. Also some mild berryish sweetness before a floral and nutty aftertaste comes around.

Gravity, Cov 2011- wanted All Gates All Black, got this. Happy accident; brown Smartie and blackcurrant aroma with some musky hop and yeast. Has something of the feel of a US brown ale about it- light bodied but oozing with various chocolate and lightly roasted layers; light hop tang, umami, smoked malt and almonds, black cherry, brown toast for company. Packed with stuff at 4%. Chestnut with a slim but clinging beige lid. Very tidy little third.

Cask (handpump) at the Rake Welsh Beer Festival on 1 March 2011. Mid brown colour - not that dark. Caramel on the nose. More in the flavour. Some fruity notes. Quite sweet Low hops. Was going to describe it as a archetypal old-style Welsh bitter but I see it’s listed as a mild. Palatable but none too interesting anyway.

Brown-amber. The aroma has some butter and vague cookie notes. Starts with a soft maltiness but turns into sharp, slightly sour fruitiness after a time.

On gravity at the Great Welsh Beer & Cider Festival, 10/06/10. Dark brown with a slight, off-white head. Aroma of caramel and berry fruit, with a touch of roasted malts. Flavour of sweet malts and coffee, with a short bitter finish. Good.

Cask at NWAF 2009. A brown beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has notes of butter and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet with primary notes of butter, but also lighter notes of roasted malt, leading to a dry buttery finish. The body is light.

Gravity at Great Welsh Beer Festival, pours a deep brown-red, with a coarse white head. Nose has hints of treacle and malt, and a coffee scent. On the palate, slightly sour and a bit flat. Aftertaste is dry with a bit more coffee.
