Cask, gravity at Luton BF ’10. The name refers to the date of the death of Buddy Holly. ’The day the music died’ in fact. The brewery themes its beers on Mr Holly, to whom I am not very partial. However last year’s Bryncelyn offering at this Festival was the aptly named ’Buddy Marvellous’, which was my top beer. Once again Bryncelyn takes the prize with this excellent sessioner with its grainy malt aroma, like the inside of a packet of porage oats, and its pleasant, sweet malty taste with touches of sourness and grassiness and its mid bitter finish.
