COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This dark IPA is fully black in color, with nutty, roasty malt character, moderate body, with full, bright hop bitterness and aroma. De-husked black malt provides color and roastiness without astringent sharpness and dark caramel and special roast also deepen the color while imparting mild sweetness with lots of toasty complexity and depth. Newport, Palisade, Glacier and Ahtanum hops create multiple layers of crisp American hop character with no harsh edges. 85 IBUs

Can courtesy of Doug. Pour was deep brown and slightly murky with a khaki head. Aroma shows light roast, cocoa powder, and some light grassy/piney hops. Flavor shows the same with additional notes of burnt caramel, light berry (passion fruit?), and some underlying herbal notes as well as a hint of ash. Overall body is light to moderate, and the bitterness is present without being overwhelming.

On tap at West Coast Brewfest 2011. Pours dark brown with a massive beige head that subsides after a while, and a chocolate and coffee aroma. There is a hearty dark chocolate flavor that is slightly soapy, but otherwise pretty good.

Can thanks to John. Pours black. Tan head. Nose of chocolate marshmallow, light roast and hops. Taste of chocolate marshmallow, roasted chocolate, ash and light hops as an afterthought. Very little hops. However, this works very well without them. Smooth. Body is a little thin. Otherwise very tasty brew.

Can. Brown with a big tanne head. Aroma of freshly ground black pepper. Roasty taste with the same weird black pepper flavour. Not very hoppy.

Spicy, sprucey hop aroma with roasty undertones. Slightly sweet, nutty malt flavors with a strong, clean bitterness. Brownish black color with a creamy tan head. As hoppy as you want, with a little lingering bitterness, but with a really nice malt balance, and a little alcohol kick at the finish. Very smooth version of this style.
