Crisp lager nose with slight roast and nutty character. Dark brown with red highlights and tan head. Earthy, roasty malt flavor with slight hint of coconut, and a clean, blended bitterness. Medium body with very little aftertaste. A really nice schwarzbier, which is hard to find, and a peerless barbecue beer!

I am a big Black Butte Porter fan, but this beer just blows me away. It has so much depth but is not heavy at all. I was expecting something like a porter or stout, but since it is a lager is is light to the taste and easy drinking without losing all the great flavor. It’s my new favorite dark beer!

Smoky, malty aroma deepens as it warms. Very smooth, medium body, rich flavor with coffee, cocoa, smoky, coconut and vanilla notes also increasing as it warms. Balanced bitterness and clean finish.

This smells nice - chocolate notes, a little roasty. A like this. Crisp with a good roasty character. Pretty sweet, but with an only okay finish. Still pretty nice overall.

As far as Schwarzes go, this is one of the better ones. Aroma is smoky and roasty. Pours a cola-like black. Finishes dry and aromatic. A good dark lager.

16 oz can my friend Tim gave me at the Bistros BA Fest to bring home. Nose is caramel, some oalaberries, and chocolate, like a dark chocolate covered berry. Clear dark brown with a medium beige head. Flavor has chocolate and caramel with a light bit of the fruity berries, bitterness, and coffee. Good Schwarzbier.

Canned. The body was perfectly black with a tan colored head. The aroma was malty with some caramel and chocolate notes. The taste was fairly decent coffee with some cherry pits. There was also some smooth walnut. A nice solid scwarzbier.

Can. Deep brown - almost black - with a medium tan head. Aroma of charred and roasty malt with notes of coffee and cocoa and a bit of smoke. Medium bodied. Flavour follows the aroma very closely - rich and roasty with hints of coffee, cocoa and smoke - and a dry, well-bittered finish with some nutty notes. Excellent!

I was actually surprised how much I enjoyed this one. Reddish brown with a ring of foam. Kind of a weird but appealing cinnamon and cookie aroma mixed with red wine. Flavor is tart, bordering on sour but quite. Coffee and cinnamon mixed in, with a little wine, too. I have no idea how close this is to style, probably quite a bit off the mark, but I liked it.
