2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bomber, as Swans Appleton Brown Ale. Clear cola colour, finer tan foam fades. Aroma of sweet malts. Taste is quite sweet, singed caramel malt, dark brown sugar, some green fruitiness. Soft carbonation, medium bodied, low hopped. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)

A pleasant, light sipper. A touch of hops. Pale in the glass. Light head. Slight citrus nose.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Ambré foncé, ou même un peu marron avec presque pas de mousse. L’arôme du malt un peu sucré et terreux avec peut être un peu de sucre brun. Le goût est similar. Facile à boire.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
August 17th, 2012 - This beer’s title is a mouthfull, but the beer itself is not. The aroma - a syrupy swamp of heavy malts and grape - comes off as cloyingly sweet, like an off-brand soda. And the taste is flat, with a low, mellow winter warmer aftertaste following up after an overwhelming note of artificial grape and Manischewitz wine. It’s clumsy in palate and flavor, and compared to most of the other beers I’ve been enjoying here in Alaska, this brown ale comes up short. Folks with sweeter appetites more inclined to sugar and pop will find something worthwhile here, but for my part, this is not a beer I’d spend more time with given the choice. There’s too many other good things brewing away up here for that.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Verbatim from notes 16JUL11
Brown ale with brilliant clarity and no head, no surface bubbles, no lace. Smells of brown sugar, roasty malts, sweet bread. Hints of hazelnut and a sprinkle of flour on the nose. Taste is sweet, roasty, with hints of tomato, grain, pretzel and a touch of buttered wheat toast. Light body wit hlow carb. Dry finish appropriate for the style. Not a bad offering at all. The malts are nice, just barely on the sweet side of satisfaction.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Tap. Pours a clear amber brown body with a minimal off-white head. The nose is sweet and nutty with some burnt caramel malt and minimal floral hops. The flavor is sweet hazelnut and caramel malt with a minimal bitterness and lightly husky malt. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with soft fizzy carbonation. About average for a brewpub Brown Ale. A little too sweet for my tastes though.

Draft - Nice roasted malts and raisin. Clear brown with a rich brown head. Nice brown sugar and raisin, with malts and some grain dominating. Another classic English style.

On tap at Swans in Victoria. Fair as fair can be. Nothing exciting to speak of. Run of the mill English-style brown. Ho hum.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Draft sample. Poured a clear brown color with an average frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted nutty malt aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium toasted sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap @Swans. Muddy brown. Nutty caramel. Malty sweet. Light, thin and a little bland. Sessionable but not particularly memorable.
