2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Oakes (10184) - Gibsons, - AUG 7, 2005
Hazy dark brown colour. Straightforward malty/hazelnutty aroma. Strange body - both full and thin, like you’d find in a nitro beer, but this was a firkin. I guess both have low carbo. No worries though, I’ll be at the brewery next month. The flavour is mainly about carastany malts and a light nuttiness. Doesn’t appear anything wrong with the beer, but a standard brown ale is just so uninspiring for me.

On tap at pub, brown pour with little white head. Aroma is toffee, cereal, chicory. Taste aligns, but is really subued. Add a little licorice flavour. Kinda watery.

650ml bottle pours brown in color with a moderate white head and a few spots of lacing. Aroma is caramel and a hint of aromatic hops. Taste is caramel sweetness with a hint of fruitiness and a mild hoppy bitter finish. A decent brown ale which was decently balanced with flavors, but a little thin on body and lightly carbonated.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 tiggmtl (4475) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 8, 2009
Aroma suggests pears, brown sugar and toasted malts with a floral undertone. Hazy amber-brown body is topped by a decent, fine bubbled tan head that recedes to a relatively well-lasting cover with some nice lacing. Sweetness up front is joined by a quick hit of dark malts and light offsetting bitterness. Caramel lingers in the aftertaste. Medium full body with wonderful soft-bubbled carbonation. Tulip glass. Cellar temperature. Bottle purchased at Brewery Creek in Apr-09.

Draught at the brewpub, hand pulled Brown-amber color. It has some caramel aroma and a mixed caramel-roasted malt flavor, with a medium dry mouthfeel. Straightforward beer, but quite good.
