Oakes (8079), gone rambling, Vietnam Sep 11, 2005 Light golden-brown colour. Slight brown sugar sweetness and hints of earth are the main features. Bland, caramelly with vague English hop earthiness. Fairly sticky finish. Some underattenuation problems at the brewery these days? Sad, this used to be a beauty back in the 90’s. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Aug 5, 2005 Cask at the brewery
Orange rusty color and clear appearance. The nose is full of tangerines, sour oranges, wood and scotch. Hoppy oranges, alcohol and ashtray notes as well. Wet tasting, not that hoppy up front, but scratchy and woody in the finish. Good toasted nut flavor, very decent brew. texasbeerlover (9), Austin, Texas, USA does not count Apr 24, 2005 Cask conditioned. Nice red amber color. Smooth bitter flavor, nice finish for a bitter. Very good by style. Perhaps a bit tart in finish. Pretty clean, and drinkable. They got a new brewer, no longer Chris, seems he left about 2 years ago. I would probably term this a “Red Bitter” BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 29, 2005 Copper body with a minimal white head. Aroma is slightly hoppy but little else. Some malts and hops in the flavour but again quite thin. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Mar 16, 2005 (Draught) Thin, white head with a deep copper body. Nose of bitter english malt. Decent maltiness flavour with sour hop tones. Flat, watery and bland. Cask conditioned? Perhaps. Good? Not really. JohnC (2233), Mission Viejo, California, USA Jul 11, 2004 On a small pub crawl while onshore for a few hrs from my cruise ship, I hit up Swan’s. As a general statement for all of their beers that i tried, the good news is that they were served at the right temperature. The bad news is that none of them was too good, IMHO.
This bitter was a clear amber color, and slightly sour. JoeMcPhee (4911), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 13, 2004 Pale brown colour with a thin white head. Almost still carbonation. Zesty maltyness with some molasses. Some bitterness, although due to a mix up I killed my palette on the IPA before hitting this one. Nice spicy hop flavour and some bitterness.
