Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Sep 11, 2005 Light golden-brown colour. Slight brown sugar sweetness and hints of earth are the main features. Bland, caramelly with vague English hop earthiness. Fairly sticky finish. Some underattenuation problems at the brewery these days? Sad, this used to be a beauty back in the 90’s. fiulijn (7150), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Aug 3, 2008 Draught at the brewpub, hand pulled Beautiful, clean amber color. Some caramel aroma. It has a medium sweet flavor, that strangely reminds me a watered Barley Wine; soft mouthfeel; good bitterness, ending with the correct mix of caramel too. Good. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Oct 16, 2007 on hand pump-pours a disappearing off white head with bubbles and copper color. Aroma is medium malt-caramel. Taste is medium malt-caramel, fruit-apple, a bit syrupy although light body. Fits the style. mj (4971), Colorado, USA Aug 5, 2005 Cask at the brewery
Orange rusty color and clear appearance. The nose is full of tangerines, sour oranges, wood and scotch. Hoppy oranges, alcohol and ashtray notes as well. Wet tasting, not that hoppy up front, but scratchy and woody in the finish. Good toasted nut flavor, very decent brew. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 13, 2004 Pale brown colour with a thin white head. Almost still carbonation. Zesty maltyness with some molasses. Some bitterness, although due to a mix up I killed my palette on the IPA before hitting this one. Nice spicy hop flavour and some bitterness. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Aug 1, 2008 Thick, chewy caramel malt aroma with light fruity esters and floral, earthy hops. Hazy, deep copper coloured body is topped by a generous and lasting off white head that leaves some lace. Caramel up front but not overly sweet. Decent offsetting bitterness with floral and earthy hop flavours. Esters are apparent especially in the aftertaste. Quite dry with medium body and creamy texture offset by pleasantly prickly carbonation. Tulip glass. Allowed to warm from fridge temperature. Bottle (Brewery Creek, Aug-08). joss (3632), Garching b. München, Germany Aug 11, 2006 Tap. Light toasted aroma.
Beautiful deep amber, nice golden creamy lacing head.
Light toasted flavor, slightly green. Grassy balance.
Creamy mouthfeel, good chewy body.
Good Bitter.
CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Mar 16, 2005 (Draught) Thin, white head with a deep copper body. Nose of bitter english malt. Decent maltiness flavour with sour hop tones. Flat, watery and bland. Cask conditioned? Perhaps. Good? Not really.
