Oakes (8057), gone rambling, Vietnam Sep 11, 2005 Golden-amber colour. Slighlty woody aroma. Sweetish start - syrupy but then turns very bitter late with hints of woody dryness...but still residual sweetness that clashes with the hops. Cloying IPAs...not my thing. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Oct 16, 2007 on tap-pours a retaining thin off white head that laces and copper color. Aroma is citrus/sweet grapefruit hops, secondary medium malt. Taste is citrus/sweet grapefruit hops, secondary medium malt, slight pungent/bitter at finish. OK/mild carbonation. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Aug 5, 2005 Clear orange color with a white head. Very sweet, some candi sugar flavors, sickly tart oranges, semi-thick body, with a frothy thick amount of carbonation. Full of sweet resiny fruit and burnt malts. A little weird, though, but not hitting the right spot. Simple at times, tinny almost, with a somewhat artificial candy fruit scent. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Jun 13, 2004 Updated: May 30, 2005I guess third time is the charm with this one. Out of a 650 ml bottle. Pours clear and copper-coloured with a nice white head. Sweet malty aroma with some juicy fruit-like hop notes. Tropical fruit nose (mango, papaya, lychee) and some light maltiness. Flavour is nice and fruity. Very tropical as suggested by the nose. Sweet mango up front. There is a touch of faint malt in the middle, but the fruity hoppiness seems to make this more malty than you might infer from the description. Moderate soft hop bitterness definitely makes it an IPA, but unlike any I’ve ever had. I don’t know why it is so different on tap vs in the bottle, but I’d definitely go with the bottled version.....................................................................................................................
Tried this again and I found the same thing as the first time around. Very weak, watery aroma... perhaps a touch of citrus, but really no more than that. Flavour is a bit citrusy with an assertive bitterness, but not enough malt to back it up. I’m going to grab a bottle of this to try later... the descriptions from others make me think I’ve just hit two bad days in a row (as unlikely as that is).

Rich copper coloured with a thin tan-coloured head. Pine and caramel aroma, light spice. Flavour shows strong pine presence. Full bodied but still quite unbalanced without enough malt for the hop flavour. Nicely bitter finish. 4/3/5/3/8 tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Aug 1, 2008 Light citrus, floral hops over caramel and grainy malts and light butterscotch in the nose. Hazy burnished copper coloured body is topped by a low but lasting large bubbled off white head that laces really nicely. Caramel flavour is quite strong and joined by light butterscotch. Bitterness is surprisingly restrained. Citrus hops are mostly only apparent in the aftertaste. Butterscotch becomes stronger as it warms. Medium body with creamy smooth texture and moderate carbonation. Tulip glass. Allowed to warm from fridge temperature. Bottle (Brewery Creek, Aug-01). goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA Dec 25, 2005 Poured a hazy dark amber color with a small almost white head. Aroma of mildly sweet malt. Caramel with light fruitiness. Maybe a little tangerine. Malt foward flavor is sweet and with fruitiness wanting to dominate. Hops try to show themselves in the flavor the end. Mild bitterness on the finish. Decent showing. Good body. HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jan 24, 2008 Bottle (650ml). Shared with blankboy and garthicus, my bottle via trade with mgermani. Slightly hazy light copper pour, solid lasting frothy off-white head. Lovely IPA aroma - sweet toasted malt, citrus/resin hop bitterness and a hint of yeasty lactose. The taste is slightly burnt, high acidity and reminded me a bit of crushed dead leaves. Average body, mild carbonation, very astringent and a pretty long bitter finish. Very good indeed. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 7, 2006 Updated: Dec 2, 2007November 2006. Bottle. Dark amber body with a small quick off white head. Good hoppy aroma, green and resiny. (7+) Decent amount of resin, quite bitter. Underlying malt and muted citrus (7+). Average palate suits the beer. A fairly significant improvement over the previous sample. 7+/3/7+/3/16 - 3.6
<P>January 2006. Bottle. Orange amber with a small white head. Muted resiny citrus aroma. Flavour has moderate bitterness, a fair bit of caramel resin throughout that lingers, along with some pleasant citrus. Average palate. Nice but unremarkable. 5/3/7/3/14 - 3.2
