3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tap sample. Poured clear dark ruby hue with medium frothy off-white head that lasted with good lacing. Medium aroma of hop and toasted sweet malt. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Well balanced flavor of malt and hop flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good drinkable brew.

On tap at Swans in Victoria. Aroma and flavor of a malty red. Definitely a whole product here. I liked this one more than most in the tasting set. Fairly good beer.

Not the most interesting red. Light and mild, neither bad nor good. A significant step down after trying Moon Under Waterís Irish Red Ale, which is far more adventurous (and tasty).

650ml bottle pours amber in color with a finger of white head and a bit of lacing on the glass. Aroma is light caramel and a hint of hops. Taste is light caramel sweetness and a mild hoppy bitter finish. Light to medium body and mild carbonation leave a little room for improvement. A decent amber ale, but nothing really stands out.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
650ml bottle from Libations Liquor in West Vancouver. First...a BIG wag of the finger to Libations. They had several Swans/Buckerfields beers on special for $3.99. Little did I know until I got home and looked closer that the beer had a "best before" date of more than 12 months ago! So the bastards realized the beer was old and cleared it out but never made mention of the fact it was old. At a bakers you at least find out you are buying day old bread for a discount but apparently such quality control and honesty isnít a concern for Libations...shame on you! So, unfortunately, I have to rate the beer based on what I tasted, perhaps unfair but...there you go.
Poured a red tinged brown with minimal head and fairly high carbonation. Aroma was of mild caramel malt. taste is certainly sweet caramel but underplayed. Is this the age or is it just a mild tasting amber? Finish is unremarkable.
Damn, I feel like Iím doing an injustice to this beer.

Draught at Alibi Room, Vancouver, as Irish Red Ale, I will go for this entry...
Hazy amber color. Mild beer, light aroma, caramel flavor, nutty. Simple.

Pours reddish brown with a light head. Aroma and flavour of sweet caramel malts, with some floral notes. Quite nice.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours a reddish orange with a light head & some lacing with a sweet honey-like aroma. Good bitterness, but cheap lager-like malting with a bit of amber, and diacetyl. Good carbonation and a lightly creamy body arenít enough to rescue this one. Drinkable but not my Buckerfields best.

(Draught) $3.25 for a 10oz glass. Thin, foamy white dissipating head with a non-carbonated orange-brown body. Nose of toasted Irish malt. Flavour is roasty, doughy, mildly spiced. A nice oily texture with a tad floral finish. Good.
