OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Jan 8, 2006 650 ml bottle. Opaque dark brown colour with a mostly diminishing creamy tan head. Chocolate and coffee aroma and flavours. Medium bodied. Pretty straightforward but good. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 8, 2006 Bottle. Black body with a small chocolate coloured head. Moderate hoppy aroma with muted malt. Fair bit of hoppy bitterness and moderate underlying malt. Average to medium palate. Pleasant but a bit non-descript. Trev (850), Lakeville, Minnesota, USA Dec 18, 2005 Updated: Aug 1, 2006Bottle: Pours a dark brown with a tan frothy head. Very nice oatmeal and chocolate aroma.
Flavour is a nice mix of smokey sweet malt, toffee, and bitter chocolate. Finish is a bit thin and clean.
Re-rated 08/01/06 Oakes (8058), gone rambling, Vietnam Sep 11, 2005 Dark brown, no real head to speak of. Aroma of demerara, with hints of prunes. The flavour is toffeeish, slightly earthy with notes of brown sugar and light chocolate. Not all that roasty - has a foreign-stouty kind of character. Hint of black malt tartness in the finish. mj (4975), Colorado, USA Aug 5, 2005 Draft at the brewery
Deep brown color. Up front it’s thick, black, smoky imperial-like, but it falls apart on the back of the tongue. Wet, watery, simple coffee flavors. Some light bourbon, nuts and dark fruit notes in the nose, which is nice, but overall it suffer too much from simplicity. lilannie (383), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 5, 2005 Aroma: dark chocolate, milk, cream, roasted malts, vanilla, slight smokiness
Appearance: dark brown, small white head
Flavor: dark fruits, vanilla, some cream, and roasted coffee beans
Palate: thin but bubbly and smooth, roasted coffee and vanilla bean aftertaste--more like a porter than an oatmeal stout
Overall: porter-like, no oatmeal taste/texture, could easily pass for vanilla bean porter rogueminded (41), Newport, Oregon, USA Apr 21, 2005 smells good, looks good, tastes good. Like others have said, it is a little thin at the end. I like my oatmeals a little meatier; however, I would not hesitate getting this again when I go back to Canada! BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Mar 30, 2005 Nice looking, nice smell of cocoa and coffee with some roasted malts but the body is rather thin. Some hops at the end for a little bitterness.
