MrRoss (614), Delta, British Columbia, Canada Jul 14, 2009 Enjoyed right at the source, i.e., the bar at Swan’s Hotel on a damp, dark Victoria day (less than 30 minutes walking after downing another stout at Spinnakers!). Not much head with this one, what head there was being a tan in hue. Aroma was delicate and featured some roasted/toasted malts and coffee, but (sadly) no dark chocolate. The taste was primarily of burnt coffee and the aforementioned malts. Nice and all that, but not as good as Spinnakers. Mouthfeel tended to be on the thin side, with a small sweet note at the finish. joss (3633), Garching b. München, Germany Aug 11, 2006 Tap.
Toasted oxidized coffee aroma
Deep brown, golden brown low foamy head.
Unexpectedly complex flavor:Roasted grain, toffee, coffee, a bit maple syrup, rasins. Long lasting coffee and candied nut aftertaste.
Medium to light body, smooth mouthfeel.
rogueminded (41), Newport, Oregon, USA Apr 21, 2005 smells good, looks good, tastes good. Like others have said, it is a little thin at the end. I like my oatmeals a little meatier; however, I would not hesitate getting this again when I go back to Canada! patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 27, 2006 tap at the brewpub - Pours dark brown with a thin head. The aroma is roast malts and coffee. It has a flavor to match in a medium to full bodied, lightly carbonated brew. This stout goes down smooth with a fairly sweet finish. BillKismet (1899), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 6, 2002 Night-dark in appearance, this oatmeal stout has a deep chocolate malt aroma, but dissapoints in with a body i find too flat. Certainly smooth, and with fine oat and malt tastes that are sustained long after the last sip--this beer should appeal to many. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA Jul 6, 2008 Deep dark brown with a thin cream colored head. Aroma is chocolate, cream, roasty with dried fruit. Taste is also chocolate, cream with dried fruit and oatmeal. lilannie (383), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 5, 2005 Aroma: dark chocolate, milk, cream, roasted malts, vanilla, slight smokiness
Appearance: dark brown, small white head
Flavor: dark fruits, vanilla, some cream, and roasted coffee beans
Palate: thin but bubbly and smooth, roasted coffee and vanilla bean aftertaste--more like a porter than an oatmeal stout
Overall: porter-like, no oatmeal taste/texture, could easily pass for vanilla bean porter Malakin (465), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada May 5, 2004 Lives up to the description of smooth and creamy. Body is on the lighter side for a stout with little black malt. This beer could use more of a crisp hoppyness to it, instead it always tastes a little old.
