UPDATED: DEC 19, 2010 On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love poured for me - OH! IO! The ale pours clear golden with a small white head. The aroma, one of my personal favorites this style being, is sweet with notes of wheat, pure and notes of banana to boot. The flavor of a sweet and lightly spicy (even though no spices were added) golden ale lays on top of a pure ale base with a medium slightly bubbly and smooth mouthfeel. Well done from a brewery that doesn’t seem to be very popular.

Bottle, pours bright yellow. Aroma is spicy. Pretty light aroma and flavour. The taste is incredibly refreshing and crispy. Very drinkable

22oz bottle from rozis, 4 bucks too for a cheap beer this must be naturally flavored and sure enough no spices and just the bubblegum clove yeast flavor easy ABV and easy drinking just not hip to the Belgian style

I think the "no spices added" description is good. We want people to understand the kind of spicy phenolics expressed here as yeast-engendered. Slight pepper and other vague spices, along with a signature sweetness, make this a good attempt at style. If the abv was listed at over 6.5 I would not have bought it. The conditioning in the bottle lacks a little (but it is bottle-conditioned and I have no doubt it could blossom). Sweet flavors, with a lingering smacking on the palate. Some residual sugars obvious. Oily body too. Looks the part in the clear pour.

Sample at Buckeye Beer Engine on 12/10/11. Clear gold pour with a thin white head. Aroma of light banana, spice, malty sweetness and pepper. Malty flavor with a bit of banana and some pepper before an herbal and crisp hop finish.

Interesting. I didn’t really get any banana that others spoke of. Flavor was spicy, with high bitterness. Boozy. Oddly, I was quickly reminded of a pilsner. Almost like a pilsner/malt liquor hybrid. Weird. Decent.

Pours hazy yellow with thin to no white head, very fizzy and dissipated quickly. Aroma is corn and cereal notes, some slight yeast and spice, very slight banana. Taste seems old, but has notes of very slight banana, clove, some metallic notes with a very watery finish. Really not much good about it, except that its easy to drink.

Aroma: Faint hints of banana and bubblegum, but to the point that I almost had to snort the beer to find it. Appearance: Pale gold with almost no head. Taste: Medium sweetness balanced by a medium sourness. The two play off of each other quite well. Palate: Medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation, long finish. Overall: It’s a well balanced and developed beer, but certainly not so outstanding that I’d run out and buy more of them.

For $4.99 the bar was not set too high. Even so this was slightly below expectations coming from a brewery that usually gets it right. I didn’t expect to get a world class beer but this is something I’d have expected from the likes of Mad Brewer rather than Buckeye Brewing. Ho Ho Ho is a far better seasonal which should be on next year’s list.

Aroma / Appearance - The transparent bronze body was disappointingly thin. The color of flat ginger ale it bubbled lazily. Cherry 7UP with a medicinal tinge only added to the disappointment. At best this is an average blonde ale. Even at the low end of the price spectrum there are better options.

Flavor / Palate - Honey, melon, and flat ginger ale refreshed the palate but was ultimately boring. The mouthfeel was a bit thick for the style meaning this is not exactly sessionable. Eventually it will wear down the palate. An orange aftertaste gives it some character but overall it is simply too plain and boring for a second chance. I hope the next Buckeye release is back on track.

22. Thanks, Mike! Pours a crystal clear dark golden amber. Fizzy head for a second, then fades to absolutely nothing. Could easily be mistaken for a ginger ale. Mild reedy, slightly phenolic nose. Medium body leaning to the watery side. Toasty, nutty, reedy, slighly yeast-spicy mid palate with a mild finish. Quite understated. You hear about a belgian christmas beer and you expect a bit more boldness and contrast in the flavor profile. Very drinkable and perfectly pleasant, just a bit subdued.

Bottle: pours clear golden, minimal head. Notes of Belgian sweet yeast, banana, clove. Wheat, thick mouth feel.Finish is astringent, pungent and crisp.not what I was expecting but pretty decent.
