3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
22. Thanks, Mike! Pours jet black with a dense and rather fizzy burnt tan head. Not much lace. Big roasty dry nose, a little chalky and maybe a bit milk sour but not much. More on the dry english porter side of foreign stout and less on the hoppy side. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Roast, chalk, a bit of coffee, and some milky sourness on the mid palate. Mild chocolatey finish. Nice solid stout.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
In short: A dry and very roasted stout with a strong cacao presence and a good hopping. Nothing original but this is highly drinkable.
How: Bottle 22oz. Purchase when I visited the brewery, consumed when 8 months of age
The look: Almost black body topped by a large tan head
In long: Nose is lightly roasted with cacao notes and some locker room sweat (I get that sometimes from certain hops). The beer feels rather dry, almost chalky. Not fruity notes whatsoever. Short but sharp hops bitterness. The beer was maybe a little too roasted and chalky for its own good, like trying to swallow cacao powder, it felt like it was getting stuck in my throat. However the floury cacao flavour was rather pleasant and the bitter finish was nice. Strong hops presence that soften-up the beer with a mild juicy bitterness. Medium body with an expansive carbonation. Pleasant straightforward brew that does the basic things very well, a very good example of Keep It Simple Stupid. Cleveland area people are lucky to have that little brewery/brewpub in their backyard. A backyard in serious need of a groundkeeper I must add.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle from Root Cellar in Cincinnati. I brought it to the Big Black Beer Bash 2011. Pours a deep, dark brown color with minimal visible carbonation and a tiny tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malts, some coffee, and earth- basic but really nice. Same goes for the flavor, featuring dark chocolate, roasted caramel malts, coffee, earth and some toast. Medium-bodied, with mild carbonation and a roasty mouthfeel. Nothing in particular stands out about this one, but thatís fine because itís just a well-done foreign stout.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Opaque with large frothy brown head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of floral and grassy hops, mocha and coffee, dusty yeast esters, smoky and dark malts, and some tart fruits. The flavor is surprising, lots of grapefruit and bitters, on top of mocha and malty undertones. Some smoky and nutty tones on the finish. The mouthfeel is full for style with a crisp bite on finish. This stout does not fit any style, too bitter for a sweet, too malty for a dry, and not enough punch for an Imperial..but still quite YUMMY! Almost the stout equal to Three Floyds Alpha Klaus.

Hints of chocolate with a mild etoh warming. Hint of dry minerals and calcium with a light roast y bitterness. A well balanced stout and quite session able with a nice body and good flavor.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Black, THICK, tan head, just overcarbonated. Lots of lacing obviously. Nose of bright coffee, carbonation and roast chocolate. The flavor has a strong carbonation coming through that you canít taste it, but itís sweet and rich with lots of umami and dark sweet molasses. Finishes nice.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Independence, Oh. - Discount Drug Mart - 22 oz bomber. Pours a tar black with a deep, dark, mocha colored head that coats the glass with nice lacing. Pleasant aroma with some coffee accents, dried fruit and chicory. Flavor has a nice dry and roasted presence to it with some day old coffee notes, some chicory, a bit of licorice and some prune-like fruitiness in the back end. Mouthfeel is dry and rich - just right for the style. Pleasantly surprised. Served as a good nightcap.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured an opaque black color with a small, tan head that left clingy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, tons of smoke (reminded me of Alaskan Smoked), nuts, and chocolate. Taste of more smoke, with chocolate, vanilla beans, roasted malt, with no alcohol at all.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle shared by Dak. Black and opaque with tight tan head. Metallic aroma is fully of lead. The flavors are similarly lead-laden and paltry. Unfortunately, not liking it.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is solid. Everything I look for in a dry stout. The body is black with a light orange head. The aroma is oranges and some maple. There is also a little caramel. The taste is coffee and potatoes. There is also dark chocolate with some sweet and light maple. I want more dry stouts like this.
