Poured an opaque black color with a small, tan head that left clingy lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt, tons of smoke (reminded me of Alaskan Smoked), nuts, and chocolate. Taste of more smoke, with chocolate, vanilla beans, roasted malt, with no alcohol at all.

Independence, Oh. - Discount Drug Mart - 22 oz bomber. Pours a tar black with a deep, dark, mocha colored head that coats the glass with nice lacing. Pleasant aroma with some coffee accents, dried fruit and chicory. Flavor has a nice dry and roasted presence to it with some day old coffee notes, some chicory, a bit of licorice and some prune-like fruitiness in the back end. Mouthfeel is dry and rich - just right for the style. Pleasantly surprised. Served as a good nightcap.

22 oz. bottle from Root Cellar in Cincinnati. I brought it to the Big Black Beer Bash 2011. Pours a deep, dark brown color with minimal visible carbonation and a tiny tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malts, some coffee, and earth- basic but really nice. Same goes for the flavor, featuring dark chocolate, roasted caramel malts, coffee, earth and some toast. Medium-bodied, with mild carbonation and a roasty mouthfeel. Nothing in particular stands out about this one, but that’s fine because it’s just a well-done foreign stout.

Thanks to hopdog. Pours a dark, dark brown with a large bubbly tan head that eventually went away totally. Aroma of smoke, caramel, coffee, cocoa and molasses. Flavor of smoke, roasted malts, tons of carbonation and caramel.

22 oz bottle, via OhioDad. Black and white label, proclaiming that it is an "Export Stout". Completely opaque black pour, quite like motor oil, with a one inch chocolate brown head composed of fine bubbles. Sweet lactose and roast aroma, with some coffee and chocolate pudding, a bit on the lighter side overall. Rather sweet taste with roasted and chocolate malts, candied fruits, and a little black cherry on the finish. Full bodied with a thick and chewy mouthfeel. Nice fine bubbled moderate carbonation. A very solid Stout, not lacking in any aspect. Not sure why this is a Dry Stout, more of a Sweet Stout by my tastes. Very much worth seeking out all the same.

On tap: Aroma is malty with coffee, chocolate and light hops. Dark brown, virtually black with a small tan head. Flavor begins with a lot of coffee and a real interesting smoked flavor in the background. As I drink the smoke almost disappears and is overtaken by some strong grapefruit hops. Much hoppier than most stouts. Slight coffee and moderately hoppy aftertaste.

Bottle shared by Turdferguson - thanks, Sam! Thick black pour, beige head. Slightly too thin, although perhaps to style. It also had a tough time following the stout trooper, but in general I found this to be a competent drink, with a nice smoky malt finish.

Sampled at the stout tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 10/13/08. Pours pitch black with a huge head. Strong coffee aroma with some malty quality. Flavor is an excellent dry balance with a coffee/chocolate finish. Wonderful stout. Between this and the 76 IPA, these guys are definitely an underrated brewery.

Bottle shared by miketd at AS BA release! Nose of coffee, chocolate, and roastiness; Black with brown edges and a small tan head; flavor of chocolate, coffee, and hop bitterness which lasted into a bitter chcolate finish!

Bottle from my secret santa (jmikolich). Thanks! Pours black with a large tan head. Nose is slightly salty, char, cocoa, coffee, a bit of oats. Flavor is bakers chocolate, light hops, more roast. Finish was slightly metallic. Pretty good stout.
