22oz bottle pours a watery, opaque black with some clumping beige head. Nose is chalky, dark chocolate. Flavor of chocolate, malts, bread, more chalk. Medium bodied, chalky finish. Very heavy carbonation detracts from the experience as well.

This is solid. Everything I look for in a dry stout. The body is black with a light orange head. The aroma is oranges and some maple. There is also a little caramel. The taste is coffee and potatoes. There is also dark chocolate with some sweet and light maple. I want more dry stouts like this.

22 oz bottle, via OhioDad. Black and white label, proclaiming that it is an "Export Stout". Completely opaque black pour, quite like motor oil, with a one inch chocolate brown head composed of fine bubbles. Sweet lactose and roast aroma, with some coffee and chocolate pudding, a bit on the lighter side overall. Rather sweet taste with roasted and chocolate malts, candied fruits, and a little black cherry on the finish. Full bodied with a thick and chewy mouthfeel. Nice fine bubbled moderate carbonation. A very solid Stout, not lacking in any aspect. Not sure why this is a Dry Stout, more of a Sweet Stout by my tastes. Very much worth seeking out all the same.

Bomber. Pours a deep dark brown nearing pure black with a nice lasting frothy head. Aroma is nutty, roasty, mineral, dust, leather, earth, leafy- then bittersweet chocolate toasted nuts. Flavor is roast, chocolate, mineral dusty chalky limestone, some light ashy coffee and light herbal hops, Ok. Finish is pretty dry.

Pailhead (5073) - Brownstown, Michigan, USA - OCT 23, 2004
On tap: Aroma is malty with coffee, chocolate and light hops. Dark brown, virtually black with a small tan head. Flavor begins with a lot of coffee and a real interesting smoked flavor in the background. As I drink the smoke almost disappears and is overtaken by some strong grapefruit hops. Much hoppier than most stouts. Slight coffee and moderately hoppy aftertaste.

Sampled at the stout tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 10/13/08. Pours pitch black with a huge head. Strong coffee aroma with some malty quality. Flavor is an excellent dry balance with a coffee/chocolate finish. Wonderful stout. Between this and the 76 IPA, these guys are definitely an underrated brewery.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of malts, roasting, sweet cream, chocolate, and a bit of floral hops. Poured dark dark brown in color with a large, creamy, foamy, thick, brown head that lasted throughout. Opaque. No lacing. Flavor is light to medium sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of roasted malts, chocolate, oatmeal, cream, and a hint of coconut. Medium to full body. Thinish, tingky texture turns chalky. Average carbonation. Dry, roasted malt and chocolate finish.

JPDIPSO (4956) - Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 1, 2005
Very dark brown, nearly black with a moderate bubbly tan head. Roasted malts, dark cocoa, mild herbs, and light coffee. Fuller feel sensed from the oatmeal. Light dark fruit sweetness, mix with roasted malts and coffee. Mild earthy peat flavors join in. Flavors are welcome, but seem disjointed. Still a very nice effort.

This poured almost black with a big lgiht tan head. Aroma was pretty sweet and chocolatey for a stout. Flavor was silky and smooth chocolate, but a bit too sweet for me, not much roastyness to it at all.

Thanks to hopdog. Pours a dark, dark brown with a large bubbly tan head that eventually went away totally. Aroma of smoke, caramel, coffee, cocoa and molasses. Flavor of smoke, roasted malts, tons of carbonation and caramel.
