krautdog (15), Ohio, USA Mar 17, 2008 Tried this on tap at The Buckeye beerengine. It was served with a thick, creamy head and had a beautiful coffee aroma.
This was an excellent stout, it had a nice roasted/chocolate taste but not too roasty or bitter. The oatmeal in the grain bill really gives this a smooth taste and excellent mouth feel-I Highly recommend this one for St. Patrick’s day quaffing.
Schroppfy (1729), Ohio, USA Aug 26, 2008 Sweet as an oatmeal stout would be, and quite creamy. Indeterminate roastiness - not coffee, more like being out in the forest at a very subdued campfire. The head is quite large and lasting. The body is a tad watery, surprisingly. Aroma is milky sweet, grainy, and very natural. vyvvy (1689), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Aug 23, 2008 Pours very dark with a dense tan head. The aroma has roasty malt, white chocolate, woody / oakiness and some light coffee. As it warms the chocolate turns darker and more bitter. Medium thin body that’s crisp and smooth with lots of soft carbonation. The flavor begins with charred chocolate malt, sweet white chocolate, some spice and a bit of a twang. The finish has more twang and tartness that works well for the style and compliments the char. Nice foreign stout. SQNfan (436), Wheaton, Illinois, USA Aug 21, 2008 This poured black in color with a thick brown head. Aromas were of chocolate, coffee grounds and a hoppy roasted malt element. In the mouth it was medium-bodied with a soft midpalate and a dry/bitterness on the finish that came off a bit harsh. TURDFERGUSON (1125), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Aug 21, 2008 Bottle from my secret santa (jmikolich). Thanks! Pours black with a large tan head. Nose is slightly salty, char, cocoa, coffee, a bit of oats. Flavor is bakers chocolate, light hops, more roast. Finish was slightly metallic. Pretty good stout. durhambeer (397), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 21, 2008 As JCB and emacgee noted, we opened this bad boy after drinking Stout Trooper, so the shift in tastes wasn’t necessarily beneficial to my enjoyment of this beer. More mealy than meaty, with grain/oatmeal notes coming out. Somehat creamy. Solid but not amazing. Thanks, Turdferguson, for sharing.
