A Belgian-style Witbier (Wheat) brewed with lemon peel and spicebush berries.

Perhaps this was a bad batch or perhaps the bottle was a bit past its prime. Either way this was almost an immediate disappointment. Usually Buckeye manages to produce a solid middle of the road product. This one should be passed by unless you are looking for every possible Ohio tick.

Aroma / Appearance - A transparent golden base is almost suffocated by the billowing white head. Lemon peels, light musk, and mild hops may not be skunked but it is on the edge of having a strange undesirable funk.

Flavor / Palate - Lemon peels sandwiched between pages of dusty books have flavor but feel a bit stale. The fast fading profile makes it hard to get much more depth. Lacking any complexity that is probably a good thing - the soft finish makes it easy to soon move on to a better alternative. I’ll give Buckeye the benefit of the doubt here but this batch was not their best.

Bottle pour. Hazy pale straw color with a white head and splotchy lacing. Aroma is very faint, but the taste is where pick up on a lot if bready and clove notes. Enjoyable and easy to drink wheat.

Served in a glass at Buckeye dinner here in Chagrin Falls. Comes cloudy pale yellow, bright white ring. Nose is heavy Belgian yeast, lemons, clove, cedar and wheat. More of the same on the palate with sour Belgian yeast acidity, lemon and wheat richness lending weight to the body. Suitable beer on a hot day. A success ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Beer Engine 28Sept2012, this is more of a wit than a wheat ale, but who’s counting. its also substantially dominated by the belgian yeast, over powering everything else, i don’t know what spicebush berries taste like, and even after drinking this i still dont know

Sample at Buckeye Beer Engine on 9/11/12. Pours clear yellow with a thin white head. Aroma of heavy spice and herbs, banana and clove. Big herbal flavor with malt, spice and banana before a peppery finish.

Draft. Poured hazy yellow color with an average white frothy head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Moderate citrus, spice and wheat aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium balanced sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. I would share this with a freind for summer brew.
