American IPA

Loads of Crystal and Sterling hops lead the way in producing huge citrus and pine aromatics. Hoppiness is supported with a clean, slightly biscuity malt backbone.

On tap from the brewery tap room. Medium-golden color. Aroma of grapefruit and a little bit of malt. Taste is bright grapefruit and pine bitterness with a subdued malt sweetness. Fairly high carbonation and a medium body. I really enjoyed this one and took a grumbler of it home. I’ll be getting refills for sure, since this brewery/tap room is only 10 minutes from home.

Strong malt and hopps notes dominate this beer. Very bitter and hoppy finish. Pours a nice copper color with a thick tan head. Had at home

Crystal and sterling are two hops I’ve always thought were under-appreciated so I am happy to report this is a real nice IPA. It’s a mostly clear orange w/ a waft of foamy white head. The nose has a really nice, soft citrus quality to it along w/ a touch of pine needles. This is crisp, pretty dry w/ a nice snap of citrus rind bitterness in the finish. It’s medium bodied w/ soft carbonation, making for a very easy drinking brew. We don’t exactly lack for good, hoppy beer in this area but this is a nice addition to the ever growing stable of quality local brews in Chicago.

12 oz. can. Golden orange pour with a medium off white head. Decent lacing. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, and light bread notes. Flavor is medium bitterness with nice fruitiness. Medium bodied, lively carbonation. Finishes fruity and bitter. Nice beer.

On draught at the Pour House (Oak Brook) after work with Sojka tonight. Ordered this randomly -- and said drinking buddy/coworker, who always laughs because I ask for the beer list down there, witnessed this... so she’ll back my story: I didn’t ask for the list this time, but instead just asked for something sessionable (hadn’t eaten all day, was tired and needed to drive back into the city afterwards... don’t need the DUI, right?) so the bartender --- who is clearly fucking clueless (and I am a bartender, so yeah, I will most certainly sit in judgment on those in my own trade), gives me this beer (saying it’s a nice 4.5% and a big seller). So... nice orangey-gold pour, beautiful white head (lighting ain’t real good in the Pour House after all), pine, tropical fruit, white pepper nose, mouth is medium bodied, decently balance of caramel, biscuit and a relative fuckload of tropical and citrus fruits. Certainly a very nice IPA... but at 7% this isn’t exactly a ’sessionable’ brew by definition... which, Sojka my dear, if you ever read this, is exactly why I like to look at the list over there. They’re clueless. You, however are clued in, intelligent and beautiful and I absolutely enjoy drinking with you. ;-)

Pour on tap, hazy orange pour with white head, aroma brought notes of big grapefruit, orange, some pineapple, funky citrus notes into a bit of biscuit, bread, some caramel, nice and fruity. Taste is a mix of caramel, biscuit, nice orange, pine, funky grapefruit and mango notes into some slight spice, finishing fairly bitter. Nice.

Kind of a funk citrus smell. Pours clear with white head and sticky lace. Citrus taste up front and pine finish. At Irish Times in Brookfield, IL.

Orange and cloudy pour from draft at beermiscuous. White head that sticks and coats the glass all the way down. Crazy fruity/grapefruit aroma. The hops are amazing in this beer. Taste is a tropical fruit bomb of happiness. Love it

Tap at Kasey’s Tavern in the South Loop of Chicago. Hazy orange color surprising from an IPA. Lacing us there and head definitely tries hard. Aroma is a citrus and tropical note cacophony. Taste really follows suit too. Lots of hoppy, citrus flavors and the resin like aftertaste of an IPA. I would recommend buckling down and ordering this when in Chicago.
