Margaritas, the classic summer cocktail, are getting a fresh twist this summer with todayís national launch of Bud Light Lime Lime-a-Rita, the latest addition to the growing Bud Light portfolio. Blending the flavor of an authentic margarita with a refreshing splash of Bud Light Lime, Lime-a-Rita is an 8%* ABV margarita-flavored alcohol beverage that meets a growing demand among adult drinkers seeking sweeter alternatives.

Questionable database entry here. This is an alcopop/malternative with no beer characteristcs at all. Pale cloudy yellow/green color, fizzy. Looks a bit like limeade. Nose is lime and cheap tequila. Flavor is lime, very sweet and a bit sour. Basically a lightly carbonated crappy margarita in a can. As another rater mentioned, much too sweet for any grown adult to be able to drink.

24oz can in Seattle, as part of a white elephant gift box. Hazy lemon yellow, cloudy fruit radler like Iím used to. But much sweeter artificial lime and alcohol on nose, and oh does it carry through the flavor. Goofy sweet alcopop, burns my gums. But insomuch, tasty? Canít believe this can be considered beer though. Wicked to see something that tastes like this but is 8%. weird thing.

Yellow with a green tint. Pours with a nice white foamy head. Smells like green coolaid and beer mixed together. Tastes the same with some salt mixed in. Good Tilt replacement. Just add ginseng. Way too sweet to be enjoyed by a mature adult.

UPDATED: DEC 24, 2013 Can. Pale yellow pour. Doesnít taste like beer at all - very much like a margarita. This doesnít suck but itís stretching the imagination to call it beer.

Iím not sure this beverage truly qualifies as a "beer." I think Bud Light Lime-A-Rita is more accurately classified as a "flavored malt beverage" like Mikeís Hard Lemonade or Smirnoff Ice (or as I like to call them - "alcopops"). I find it difficult to believe thereís malts and hops in this as it just tastes like liquid candy. In fact, it makes for an extremely challenging review. Yes this tastes good (gimmicky as hell, but good), but at the same time itís not REALLY a beer. Iím going neutral on this one (and Iím sure Iíll still get ripped for this review).

I poured an 8oz can into a snifter (because the glass is essentially the same height as the can and it makes for a better picture that way).

Appearance: By far the palest "beer" Iíve ever seen. Even whiter than a witbier with slight straw yellow hue to it. Quite hazy. Produces a minute coating of white bubbles that fizzle away like a soda and obviously leaves no lacing.

Smell: Surprisingly mild, but discernibly sweet. Spiked lemonade is the predominate scent.

Taste: Oiy. How the hell do I review this? I used to be a fan of alcopops way back in the day, and Iíll still drink them occasionally if thereís absolutely nothing else available. And to be honest I enjoy their candy-like flavor. So, as an alcopop, Bud Light Lime-A-Rita is actually pretty good. Itís similar to Mikeís Hard Lemonade, but with a dash of lime. In fact, Iíd criticize it for not having enough lime flavor (I guess "Bud Light Lemon-A-Rita" doesnít have the same ring). Itís sweet but not cloying. Thereís a nice tartness on the finish.

That being said the fact remains this just isnít a beer. No malt character and definitely no hops. Itís overt in its chemical-forward palate. It just tastes like something made on an assembly line by robots. Even though thereís nothing really off-putting about this beverage, the fact remains that I just canít honestly give a thumbs up to something that really isnít even beer (so why am I reviewing it at all?). A truly honest grade for this would be either "incomplete" or "n/a".

Drinkability: Bud Light Lime-A-Rita has the carbonation and mouthfeel of an ale and has no lager qualities at all (I donít even know what style this would be classified as - malt liquor? fruit ale? light lager?). Itís amazing that at 8% ABV it has such a light body and no alcohol presence at all. Itís refreshing even when drank indoors in the winter. But why spend top dollar for only an 8oz serving when you can get a comparable 12oz product at a better price?

The aroma is like a margarita, lime, light alcohol. The appearance is pale yellow, like lime juice mixed water and beer, with white head. The flavor is like a margarita also, lime, sweet. no evidence of the beer mixed in, but given that they mix in the pisswater Bud Light, this is not a surprise. The finish is lime, booze, light hop bittering. Medium in body. Ok for what it is, but it can hardly be called beer.

Not a bad try, but Iíd say get a flavored malt like Mikeís if you really want to mix all that sugary flavor into an alcholic beverage.

Can poured over ice. Not really a beer at all but an OK quick margarita drink. My wife really likes them. I would drink it again if there wasnít much else to choose from.

Big boy can. Pours an extremely pale yellow, almost white, with thin, fizzy white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is a heavy does of salt and lime with some faint straw malt. Flavor is the worst margarita youíve ever had; extremely watered down with a dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

Can, tall boy. Pours hazy pale yellow with a small, frothy white head, short retention with spare lacing. Aroma is margarita and salt. Flavor is margarita and salt with a dry finish. Light body and medium carbonation. This shit will get you right.
