lachesis (757) - St Idesbald, BELGIUM - JAN 4, 2005
Intens clear dark-amber beer with a ivory creamy head. Soft and smooth aroma’s of roasted nuts, malts, caramel and butter toffee. Mouthfeel is soft and green-bitter at the same time. It has a outspoken malty caracter with touches of drop and licorice. In the afthertaste there is a fine hoppy accent.

UPDATED: OCT 24, 2004 For some reason I did not like this bock. I didn’t like it on the BBF 2003 and was again a bit disappointed with it this year from the bottle. It is not bad, but with my last experience something seemed not to be right with it. I am afraid that there was diacetyl in the bottled one I tasted recently. The positive thing of this beer is that it’s not too sweet and has a nice bitterness to it. Update-24/10/04- Tasted this beer on the Bockbeer festival in Utrecht, The Netherlands, on draft. Unfortunately this (on draft) has the same strange taste. According to my friends it wasn’t really diacetyl but there something chemical in the taste.

(Drank this draught under the designation V.S.O.B. 2002 - whatever that stands for) Dark chestnut, opaque; thcik cream-coloured head. hoppy, drak malts, candi sugar and molasses in the nose. taste gives first an upcoming bitter-hop flavour. Then butterscotch intervenes. Damn. I somehow get a feeling/flavour of purée de marrons (chestnut flour cream). medium to heavy bodied. Nice, sweet-syrupy but agreable beer. Shame about the diacetyl.

Clear redbrown color, short creamy frothy head. Aroma is caramel malty, bit fruity. Bit roasted, fruity taste. Sweet sticky palate. Very decent bock.
