Medium reddish-brown; chewy, toffeeish nose (yes, I do chew with my nose, thank you very much). Solvent-like phenols are getting in the way here...but rich malts, earthy one minute then turning quite sweet. I suppose a bock nut might be down with that, but I find it a little too sweet for its own good.

Mahogany coloured. Fruity and very malty, Toffee flavour, rather sweet with nice late bitterness to finish it off.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2007 I am not as enthousiastic as jbrus was. The aroma and taste of roasted malt was a bit too much, especially as the beer was rather dry for a Dutch bock beer. For a bockbeer it was a little on the thin side. Nevertheless a decent bockbeer. Tasted in october 2001. Blindfold test: 2005 version. Caramel aroma. Medium to full bodied. Hints of roasted malt, caramel, some hops in the background. Amaretto liquor. (6 3 7 3 13 = 3.2) Same rating for the 2006 version, tasted in nov 06. Caramel and malt in the aroma. Malty, bready caramelly flavor with some roasted malt. relatively dry for a Dutch bock. Good!

jbrus (4992) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - FEB 25, 2002
UPDATED: NOV 2, 2005 re-rate:At first the aroma had some skunky hop in it but this disappears. Instead it turns to caramel and a hint of varnish. Ruby color, beige head, good lace. Sweet, light bitter, butterscotch all over, alcohol well present. Fruity in the start but this disappears. Long lasting, bitter and warming finish. Feb 25, 2002, 4.2: This bock was voted ’Best Dutch Bock’ last year and I guess they were right! Light roasted and butterscotch aroma. Dark ruby red, light brown large creamy head, good lacing. Very smooth, sweet, roasted and moderate full. Long roasted and hops bitter finish.
