Abbey beer, ruby colour, top-fermentation beer, outstanding owing to its soft flavour and fantastic aroma. This beer’s name comes from the French Capuchins, who had a monastery in Budel at the beginning of the last century.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a clear ruby with an average size diminishing light-brown head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt -- the best smelling Budels beer I’ve had by far. Flavour has a nice malty taste with a light bitter finish. Medium body. By far the best Budels beer in their giftpack, I’d actually have it again.

Bottle (330ml). Shared with Blankboy - Budel giftpack adventure 6 of 6. Poured deep clear copper-burgundy with a decent off-white lasting head. Aroma of candyish fruity roast malt with mild prunes and raisins. Taste of steeped fruits, light roasted caramel malt, a little bitterness in the finish to balance the sweetness. Mouthfeel is a bit astringent, average body - finally, a carbonated Budels beer. Overall this is pretty decent, the best of the six-pack, but still a pretty ehh brew.

Nice ruby body topped with an average beige bubbly/foamy head. Fair malty aroma with light hoppy and woody hints. Its hoppy taste is sharp, well balanced, but may lack complexity. It carries some brown sugar and spicy notes and ends with a decent bitter finish. I am finally done with that Budels gift-pack and this was the only decent sample in the whole lot.

Average belgian ale. Nice brown appearance. Aroma is interesting. A bit brown sugar or chocolate, fruity flavored.

Borwn color, not much head. Lemony, sweet sugary aroma. Medium-bodied, fruity, chocolaty, some grassy hops. Unfortunately this all is made in quite boring way - "commercial abbey dubbel" - type of brew. Some alcohol in the finish. (6/3/7/3/12 3.1)
Re-rated, bottled (BB 10/2007)
Red ruby color, big tan head. Sweet roasted sugar aroma with some coffee beans. Medium-bodied. Quite sweet, added kandi sugar here. Chocolate, grassy hops hiding the background. Sweetish aftertaste. Too much sugar, I wonder what ageing does to this one. (6/4/6/2/12 3.0)

Brown with a creamy head, that did not last long, but left some lacing. Aroma is full of toffee and liquorice. Soft, medium body, a bit oily. Rather sweet flavour, but not excessively so.

On draft at the PINT beerfestival. A lot better than Batavier. Malty beer with caramel present and some fruitiness, and I bit sweet for my taste, but quite nice overall.

Very doughy, toffee, caramel aroma with underlying black cherry fruitiness. Opaque deep brown with a shy cover of off-white head that recedes immediately to ring. Sweet black cherries, brown sugar and caramel. Medium-light body is somewhat watery with low carbonation. Tulip, just above fridge temp. Bottle (trade, Jun-2005). Thanks, radiomgb!
