COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Abbey beer, ruby colour, top-fermentation beer, outstanding owing to its soft flavour and fantastic aroma. This beer’s name comes from the French Capuchins, who had a monastery in Budel at the beginning of the last century.

Dark reddish/brown coloured, medium sized tan head, caramel nose. Light roasted malt, burnt sugar and caramel aroma with notes of fruit and dry herbs. Pleasant warming finish. Very good beer, much better than Alt.

Bottle: Poured a reddish brown amber with thin tan color head. Aroma is sweet toffee or roasted malt and veggy like, hints of fruit. Taste is a burn roasted malt with a dry bitter finish.

[Bottled] Dark reddish brown with a rich head. Aroma is sweet with notes of toffee, black currant and liquorice. Flavour is smooth and sweet with more toffee and black currants. Dry, somewhat alcoholic finish.

(bottle, from bierkoning) Clear, ruby colour with a mid-sized, slowly lacing beige foamy head. Sweet toast-malty aroma with caramel, cacao and subtle fruity notes. Sweet flavour, medium to full body, smooth carbonation. Moderately roasted malty taste with caramel and soft underlying fruity notes; sweet, malty, slightly alcoholic finish with faint bittering hops. Tastes like an average dark Bock.

Bottle (traded with joss) Clear amber coloured, small foamy layer; fruity (ripe berries), sugary aroma with a touch of toasted malt and molasses; stronger sweet flavour, sticky MF; ripe fruit in the finish with a very small bitterness in the aftertaste. Not really bad, but rather one-dimensional......................

[Bottled at Monk’s Café, Stockholm] Deep ruby, rich form head. Caramelly, soft, sweet and medium bodied. Warming qwith notes of caramelized sugar. A pleasant, mouthfilling uncomplicated beer .

ALLOVATE (2380) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 28, 2006
From the bottle at just on cool, and into a shallow chalice. Deep, ruby red body with a cappuccino-style, frothy beige head that left some signature lacing down the glass. Appeared bright but a quick inspection in the lights showed this had a bad case of the floaties - like pureed fruit. Thick, layered and sweet, vinous nose holding a lot of fruit, spice and medicinal alcohol beyond its modest ABV. Ripe plums and cherries, top-soil and dust and just a little chocolate fill out and are quite pronounced. Very pleasant. In the mouth it is woody and dry, slightly pasty and dusty like the nose. Body is quite light, unexpected from the full-throttle aroma, but it is soft and creamy. Cocoa, shredded dark chocolate and almonds upfront, almonds also in the finish. Feint metallic note in back with some driftwood and merlot-wine dryness. Dry, woody, vinous finish that shows just a little smoke and burnt fruit. This wasn’t too bad at all. Alarmingly light in body, but otherwise quite a tasty after-dinner beer. (30cL, BBE 06/07, Int’l Beer Shop, W. Leederville)
