UPDATED: JUN 4, 2003 This brew poured a medium head of fine white bubbles and a transparent light orange colored body with carbonation rising up the sides on the mug. It has a mild hop aroma with the flavor of a lager and its head left little lacing. The taste of this beer is not bad and not great. I could taste notes of chewy hops and some acidic bitterness in its finish.

Well its been a real longtime since I’ve had a Budweiser Budvar, and my notes are quite favorable, but that was before I became a “Beer Geek”, and truly developed my love for dark strong ales. The archetypal limpid golden pilsner color, the head brilliant white, moderate in size and frothy in structure, the lace adequate, prototypical pilsner nose, all malt and lightly sweet, fresh and clean, start is malt and somewhat sweet, top is skeletal in its feel. Finish is potently acidic, the hops pleasant in their spicy bite, dry aftertaste, a fair to middling beer, good as its 100 degrees Fahrenheit today, and will remain so till mid October, so these “Clean and Crisp” beers do hit the “B” Spot.

Plae yellow color with a large rocky white head. The aroma is perfumey with some very subtle spiciness from the hops. The flavor was rather bland...watery...some hops, perfumey. Typical pilsner characteristics. I'm not really impressed.

How dare the Czechvar be in brackets to appease that mongrel beer empire? Should we have truth in advertising and call it Notweaklikethekingofpissvar? Anyway, it is a lovely soft Pils from a country that knows how to do it. Not as strident as Pilsner Urquell but nevertheless a great beer.

A decent pilsener but falls a hair short of being as good as Urquell. The normal pilsener flavors are here, light malts, spicy hops. Looks great though.

Bottled. This is a nice enough beer and compared to the other Bud, it tastes down right amazing but I do think we need to get a handle on the ratings. Its good but its not great. Its got more flavour and a strong bitter finish then most, but lacks finesses and some depth.

I was so hoping to like this more after waiting so long to try it. (I did actually try it years ago, but the little bit didn't count) This is a fine beer, that much I can say, but I guess I was waiting to be bowled over. What happens to me when something is built up like this. Actually can't see anyone being disappointed as it is crisp, delicious and all. Just waiting for the elusive je ne sais quoi.

The original Budweiser is great. Very drinkeable pilsner with a great combination of hops and bitterness. I've had the original in Prague and it is outstanding.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2003 Bit of a disappointing pils. Has a fairly strong aroma of hops, but the flavor does not back up the promise of the aroma. Tastes a bit thin. Not the best of the style.
