500 ml bottle best before 25/04/2006. Pale golden colour with a mostly diminishing fizzy white head. Herbal, bready, and lightly spicy aroma. Toasty and herbal flavours with a lightly spicy and herbal bitter finish. Light to medium bodied, quite dry finish.

My next door neighbor became hooked on this while stationed in Germany. His favorite beer in all the world. Found some at his high school reunion this spring. Saved a bottle for me. This is one that has been on my list for a while. Crisp, full bodied beer. LIttle citrus undertone and a very nice pilsner. Not my personal favorite category but this is a very fine beer from this group. I have noticed that many of the online sites are selling Czechvar in the US. Its a great beer and should be sold by what it is known in Europe as Budvar. AB doesn’t make a beer by that name. If they did their product wouldn’t be slammed as much as it regularly is at this site.

Very light straw yellow with a semi-smeared clearness to its moderate bubbly body. Thin, fizzy, and elusive stark white head with no staying power. Pops away quicker then soda pop fizz to a whispy broken skim and a light frothy collaring. Lacing is splotchy at best with a bit of separated sheeting deciding to stick after about half the glass. Crisp, clean nose. Adequate but impartial strength of grains and a dantily tilting spicy/herbal/grassy Saaz induced hopping. More of a corn-like sweetness emerges after a period of warming. Taste has a mild frothyness about it with a fine tuned grain backing and ascents of sharp, quick little herbal hop pops. Semi-sweetened with a bit of honey bread underneath. Overall, mild, clean, sweet, and perky with that certain zip of Saaz hopping that’s traditionally found in a Czech Pils character. Nearly perfect mouthfeel and body mixing with the flavors with a supreme creamyness and light corn-edged sweetness along with slight bready tones. Very nice drinker here. I quite liked it. Clean, simple, delicate, and accommodating. Serve at a warmer temp and not ice cold. Much, much, better that way.

UPDATED: SEP 10, 2005 Bottle. Had right after a Pils Urquell. Slightly darker than PU with less noticable carbonation. A loose thick white, diminishing head, as opposed to the thin, creamy, glass clinging head on PU. Less skunk aroma than PU, but not as much malt either. The dominent feature of the flavor is the cleanness. It is not very bitter, but has some bite. There is a little grassiness in the flavor. Moderate body. Another well made, well balanced lager, though PU is more assertive.

Vastly superior to its American counterpart. Nice golden pour, and refreshing with no aftertaste. A great lager that any beer lover should enjoy.

It seems to be available only at the Chalet Party Shop chain in Elkhart County and its definitely going out of your way to get a sixer of it. I had been curious about this beer for quite a while and I was happy when I found it locally. Overall it is vastly superior to that other Budweiser. Just a clean refreshing brew without a bitter after taste.

Bottle. Lovely gold colour. Aroma of Saaz hop and fox (?). Good oily hop taste with long finish.

Bottle. Clear medium gold with a huge white head that vanished quickly but left some pretty lacing. Nose: grassy hops, fresh-baked bread, lemon and pepper. Taste: fresh-baked bread, cheddar cheese, ripe peaches and a touch of grassy hops. The aftertaste is slightly minty and mildly stringent. I’m not a lager fan, but this is probably one of the best I’ve had.

(Draught at Legends sports Bar, Prague.) Pours pale yellow with a thin white diminishing head. Citric nose. Acidic, hoppy flavour. Medium bitterness. Hints of toffee. Light bodied.
