Nutty, biscuity malts greet the nose. Clear mahogany brown with low but lasting tan head that recedes to partial cover. Biscuity, bready and roasted malt flavours compete for attention. Medium body is dry and quite well-attenuated with lively but soft carbonation. Sampled at GBBF 2005.

On tap at "U obory", Jabkenice: Very dark amber coloured, medium sized nice lacing head; clean malty aroma with a tinge of molasses, lively caronation; slightly sweetish, distinctive malty taste; drier, bitter aftertaste (with a tinge of chocolate); very well balanced between maltiness and bitterness; quite full bodied. A very good classical Bohemian Dunkel !

On tap in Jicin:

The Lure:
Lots of foam, but quickly receding. Roasted berries galore conquering the caramel build-up. Grilled meats are evoked, but that just may be my screaming hunger.

The Festivities:
Earthy berries fill the room, as caramel cleans up in the far corner. Light roastiness fades into a shy aftertaste. There’s nothing exciting here, but this is still a well-made and quenching dunkel.

Transcendence:
An average meal still procures some sort of enjoyment.

Just called Budvar Dark in the bar I sampled this one in. Based on taste, I’m assuming this is the same beer. Poured out black with a big white creamy head. Smelled of pepper, nuts and has some floral notes. Tasted of caramel and chocolate with some bitter citrussy notes. Peppery finish.

Draught@GBBF 05’. I liked this stuff, subtle but very nice. Lightly roasty, choclatey, and ever so slightly smoky. Very sofft mouthfeel, with some hop bitterness in the finish. Liked it very much and its something i could drink a few of.

Cask at GBBF Very dark brown. Not a lot of aroma, but good malts though in the mouth flavour with some burntness and coffee. Not a bad dunkel with a lasting coffee finish

[Draught, Great British Beer Festival] Hints of chocolate and faintly musty, smoky malt, but not much in the aroma. Dark ruby in colour, with a thin, ivory head, though I suspect the head may be down to the way it was poured. A sweet, caramel flavour, with hints of chocolate and some maltiness, but very thin-bodied. I was expecting more from this, to be honest, given the brewer.
