2.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
The bottle looks really good and the beer in the glass also. But the foam disappears very fast. The aroma is nearly mystic, very different. The flavor is much too malty, becomes really nasty. That’s why I have to say: Not a good beer!

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Had this at the Galway beer festival, but didn’t really take any notes then so I had to buy this at the local off-license here in Dublin.
Poured from a 500mL bottle with a nice dark amber color like a cola with a 1-finger head that looked very cola-ish as well. The head settled to a small film and stayed on top throughout the drink.
Roasted malts and caramely hints fill the nose upon pour. A bit smokey too it smells like.
The flavors that you can smell upon pouring come through right away in the taste too. It is a bit dry and not too full, but quite pleasant. Some sweetness & stickiness comes later on your tongue at the end of each sip along with a slight bit of sourness. Goes down easy with plenty of taste, not as heavy as I would have expected.
I like this beer and think that I could drink more than one in a session-but I am not sure if I would drink it all night long.

(Draught at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 30 Nov 2007) Dark brown colour, almost black, with frothy pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with toffee, chocolate and coffee. Roasted, malty taste with notes of coffee, chocolate and cola. Not very bitter and not overly sweet. Quite nice beer.

On draught in Prague
Black with an ample tannish head. Aroma is smoky with some roasted maltiness. The flavor matches, Maybe a slight hint of chocolate, but not extreme. Not too heavy. Not bitter. Very drinkable.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
50cl bottle from Russia, thanks to Chad. Grassy, roasty, and cocoa aroma. Flavor is woody with some smoke, saltiness, roastiness, and a little chocolate. Light to medium body is pretty smooth and rounded. Some bitterness in the finish, but mostly from the roasted malts, and the hops don’t make much of an impact. Also a little unclean and jumbled. It’s alright, but I guess I just don’t like dunkels too much.

3.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Black with a medium head. Light malt aroma. Light body. Smokey, nutty and coffee notes. Enjoyable, although after two I felt the need to move on to something else.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Almost black beer with a thin fading off-white covering. Faintly smokey, roasty aroma but the flavour seems a little too washed out and watered down.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft @ U Medvidku, Prague. Pours almost entirely opaque black with brown tones, lovely fluffy beige head that sticks around a while if you let it; almost like a lager stout: same chocolate roastiness, caramel and biscuit malts maple syrup, only lacking the heavy body and drawn out finish of a stout, which makes it a good bit more drinkable. Goes exceptionally well with goulash.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught @ St. Albans BF. Due to many of my choices being already sold out, I was kindly given a glass to try while debating. I must say it was much better than expected, not amazing but my expectations were low. Sweet roasted malt and a bit of cocoa. Taste is much the same with a bit of coffee, caramel and some hop in the finish. Hey, don’t let the name fool you, they do a couple of good un’s...

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
On tap at Bedford Arms Speciality Beer House, Bedford. Dark brown with a lively beige head. Slightly eggy malt aroma. Rather watery ashy malt taste with traces of chocolate. A little bitterness. Not up to a decent porter.
