Bottled from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Dark brown coloured, big brown head. Nose of roasted malts and caramel. Bitter malty flavour, coffee. Not much going on besides some bitterness. Not bad, but i prefer their pilsener.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
0.5L bottle, Small quickly diminishing head, dark brown almost opaque but with some lighter taints. Aroma mainly of sour barnyard with a touch of caramel. Flavour made of bitter roasted coffee, almost no sweetness which make for an extremely dry beer. Feels a little light and watery, could have been a little heavier.

500ml bottle at home, courtesy of Finn.
Pours a tight, beige head over a deep, rosewood body. Satisfying aroma of roasted malt. Plenty of roastiness in flavour backed by the sweetness of cocoa and some gentle bitterness to a rather short ending. Flat carbonation and medium bodied (07.09.2008).

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: SEP 2, 2008 Bottle. Quite a good-looking beer of dark brown color with a big beige head that diminishes slowly. Aroma of some roasted malt, caramel and coffee notes. Sweet flavor with nice maltiness, caramel, some roastiness and some dark bread and coffee notes. A lingering drier finish, quite bitter, with light Saaz hoppiness. Medium-bodied, but could use a bit more body. A good Dunkel, I enjoyed this one almost as much as I enjoy the regular Budvar.

It’s a HELL of a lot better than the Budweiser we know. Budvar is supposedly THE original Budweiser. This dark lager was pretty good. It pours a nice dark brown with a smooth head that goes away quickly. The aroma was above average. It would have been better if it didn’t have that typical green bottle skunky smell. It doesn’t taste skunky at all thankfully. The finish is good. Overall, a good beer that would probably be better if it was in a brown bottle. I’ll have to try this on tap someday.
