Prémiový tmavý ležák doplňuje tradiční nabídku piva z pivovaru Budějovický Budvar, n. p. od roku 2004. Je vyroben stejným postupem jako originální světlý ležák, za použití nejvybranějšího žateckého chmele, moravského sladu, vody čerpané ze 300 m hlubokých artéských studní a tří druhů speciálních barevných ječných sladů: mnichovského, karamelového a praženého.

Charakterizuje jej výrazně tmavá barva, suchá, jemně hořká karamelová chuť bez dominance sladkosti. Vůně je delikátní po praženém sladu.

Bottle 33cl. A very dark beer with a nice head. Smell is on caramel and hop. Aroma is amasing on toasted and roasted malt, finish is bitter and long but dry. As the beer is less alcoholic and not sweet the brown aroma can be fully tasted and appreciated. Nice Munich malt and roasted barley flavor, a bit creamy. Very nice beer, well balanced, a pleasure.

Bottled. Pours clear deep amber with a large off-white head. Nose of malt, light hops and dried fruits. Sweet flavour with light roasted malt, caramel and with notes of dried fruit. Medium bodied. Slightly bitter finish. OK.

On tap at the Fighting Cocks, Moseley. Looks beautiful, with a nice contrast between the opaque body, and soft, white, meringue-like topping. Lovely in the mush, with a smooth, choc flavour, and pepper hint. Easy drinking.

Bottle bought in Trebon. Good head, slightly tan colored. Very dark brown colored beer, darker than a dunkel. Slight aroma of malt, roasted. Pretty good burnt taste. Slight hint of coffee and chocolate. Not very sweet, just a touch. Roasted malt finish, slightly dry, a bit of hop bitterness. Medium body. Medium carbonation. A good dark beer. Not out of the ordinary, but very nice and dry.

0.5l on tap. Dark brown color, medium light brown head. Medium carbonation. Taste is very malty, caramel, nuts and roasted coffee. Slightly sweet and a hint of bitterness in the aftertaste. Definitely better than the bottled version I think.

Nice black colour and brown creamy head. Intensive aroma of roasted malts and hay. Dry roasted flavour with quite good bitterness. Unfortunately almost no flavour on the roof of the mouth, and a bit watery texture but it is well hidden by the craggy hay feature which escorts the beer until the aftertaste. As time goes by, caramelic notes come around. A characteristic dunkel which is compulsory for everybody!

UPDATED: JAN 14, 2010 Very dark brown color, giving some head; aroma of roasted malt, some sweetness: hints of liquorice and caramel; medium body, mouthfeel thick enough, but still easy to drink; flavor of some caramel-like sweetness, mostly at first, but then balanced by roastness with some bitterness and dryness in the finish.
