Prémiový tmavý ležák doplňuje tradiční nabídku piva z pivovaru Budějovický Budvar, n. p. od roku 2004. Je vyroben stejným postupem jako originální světlý ležák, za použití nejvybranějšího žateckého chmele, moravského sladu, vody čerpané ze 300 m hlubokých artéských studní a tří druhů speciálních barevných ječných sladů: mnichovského, karamelového a praženého.

Charakterizuje jej výrazně tmavá barva, suchá, jemně hořká karamelová chuť bez dominance sladkosti. Vůně je delikátní po praženém sladu.

50 cl bottle, The Dram Shop, Sheffield, UK. Opaque coffee appearance, chocolate aroma with a hint of caramel and metal. Thick, coffee and more chocolate come through, with a bright hoppiness on the finish.

Bottled. Drinkable dunkel, maybe little too watery but in acceptable measure, still I like Krušovice and Kozel and Herold black beers more so this one is rather under average.

On tap at U Medvidku, Prague. Colour is jet black with a foamy tan head. The nose is caramel and vinegar. Taste is caramel, coffee, dark chocolate and some vinegar. It’s uncomplicated but quite drinkable.

A pretty good dunkel, and a great example of a not-too sweet Czech version. A slightly watery palate. Frothy head, conditioning is fine. Medium brown with ruby. Moderate caramel/brown sugar in the flavor, very slight leafy vegetableness. Aroma is pretty good, with a little fall smoky leaf added to bready brown sugar goodness. Easy, easy to drink. Fresh example from Wine of Dreams.BB mid-May 2011.

Pours dark brown wih a medium tan head. Aromas of earthy pine, roasted malts and raisins. Taste is much the same, lots of earthy, roated flavours that make way for an easy drinking brew. Overrall its nice enough, just nothing special

500 mL bottle from Tesco poured into a pint glass at home. Certainly looks like a dark lager. Looks great with its dark as night colour and generous head. Pleasant, rich but understated aroma, more like a porter than a lager. It tastes like it smells, a very nice and smooth brew. That said after a couple of glugs the novelty wears off a little. Still nice, but not excelling.

330 ml. bottle. Pours a dark mahogany colour, with a big tanned head leaving a lace all over when it fades. Smell is roasted, like burnt wood, earthy chocolate. Mouth has dried fruits, chocolate and a the burnt wood earthy finish. Medium to light body, I would have like it a little bit more strong. Drinkable and good, but I prefer the usual lager one.

Bottle in La Palma (supermarket). Brown to black, stable foamy creme head. Aroma has malts. Full bodied taste and maly. Bitter finish, nice with very good lacing.
