Bottle. Dark brown with red tints and a beige head. Aromas are chocolate and wheat malts with light roast character. Flavours are chocolate and lemon with cola. Gritty and prickly. Some light coffee. Dry and refreshing. Decent, but not quite as good as Herold Dark.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Dark tawny in colour, with a firm pale coffee coloured head. There is a pronounced fruity nose with some underlying malt...however it’s much lighter than I expected, a slight maltiness flts across the tastebuds and is replaced by an astringent acidity, the finish is minimal. Ok I suppose, but not a patch on the other stuff. Morrisons

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from one of the supermarkets. Dark brown colour. Aroma is sweet caramel and a touch of roast. To taste it’s sweet, caramel and toffee with some toasted notes and a bit of burnt malt. Has that telltale boiled sweet character that ruins these boiled beers for me. According to the bottle the name is a protected geographical indication, but something this blandly average could be brewed anywhere.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Draught at Křbenhavnske Řldage 2006. Very dark reddish brown colour with a nice head. Little sour and some roastedness at the aroma. Also light roasted flavour. Ends up quite dry and some bitter. Not as good as theres normal Budvar.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
(On tap) Beautiful, clear mahogany with a small, off-white head. Weak aroma of roasted malt. Rather high carbonation. Weak - very weak - notes of roasted malt. Dry finish. For a brewery that produces the world’s best Pilsener this truly was a disappointment. 190506

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draught. Almost black with very little head. Has a sweet, caramel based aroma. It is a bit sharp in the taste, adding some citric tones to a very staying taste.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bought it in the Trink Gut in Nordhorn for only € 0,70 a bottle, named Budvar Premium Dark Lager. Dark brown color, creamy head. Roasted malt and grass in the aroma. Coffee, roast, apple and a grassy hopbitterness in the flavor. Also caramel. Thinnish, but certainly has complexity. Very well made dunkel.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottled, pasteurised, 500ml. Black beer with pale head. Nice malty sweet aroma leading to a big fruity flavoured beer, plenty of caamel and licquorice and fruity notes. Burnt charcoaly flavors too giving a bitter finish. Very pleasant.

Biggish offwhite creamy head takes some time to settle. Clear dark red body. Clear, faint, sweetish aroma with faint hints of roastiness. Deep, sweetish yet quite fresh taste with a light, clean roastiness and some licorice. Acidic aftertaste. Milky mouthfeel. Excellent dark lager. (On tap somewhere in Prague.)
