2.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Musty, metallic aroma. Maybe a little oxidized. Deep black color with ruby highlights if held to the light. Taste is slightly flowery which might make this a little out of style for a Schwarzbier or Munich dunkel style. But nonetheless a pretty good beer in its own right.

Malziger Geruch, Touch von Diacetyl. Im Geschmack erstaunlich röstig für Mainstream, dann aber wässrig.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: NOV 22, 2014 0,5 l bottle. Dark reddish brown (if held into the light) to black, clear liquid. Thick, creamy, slowly fading, tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, coffee with hints of licorice. Not very intense though. Taste follows the aroma with a light sweetness. The finish is slightly bitter. Medium body, average carbonation. Pleasant beer that misses some intensity and excitement but goes down really well.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
This is the first dark Czech beer I’ve tried; it is markedly different from any German dark beers I’ve had, more so than the Czech pilsners differ from German ones. Very dry, wit roast strongly evident in the aroma, but the roast has little "burnt" quality, it’s more toasty, which I like. Not as hoppy as I’d like, and I think much less hoppy than the standard Budvar. Very little sweetness. Moderate body. I strongly prefer the regular Budvar, because of its happiness and bitterness. But this could be good for a change of pace, and I do prefer it to a number of other dark beers.
