Prémiový tmavý ležák doplňuje tradiční nabídku piva z pivovaru Budějovický Budvar, n. p. od roku 2004. Je vyroben stejným postupem jako originální světlý ležák, za použití nejvybranějšího žateckého chmele, moravského sladu, vody čerpané ze 300 m hlubokých artéských studní a tří druhů speciálních barevných ječných sladů: mnichovského, karamelového a praženého.

Charakterizuje jej výrazně tmavá barva, suchá, jemně hořká karamelová chuť bez dominance sladkosti. Vůně je delikátní po praženém sladu.

Musty, metallic aroma. Maybe a little oxidized. Deep black color with ruby highlights if held to the light. Taste is slightly flowery which might make this a little out of style for a Schwarzbier or Munich dunkel style. But nonetheless a pretty good beer in its own right. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

toast, medium bitterness, thin feel, astringent. A bit disappointing. I’ve had store-brand dark lagers that were more drinkable than this.

Bottle - Clear dark reddish brown colour, medium sized beige head with average retention. Roasted malt aromas, some chocolate, red fruits, some flowery hops. Taste is sweet malty, some caramel, chocolate, flowery and herbal hops. Light to medium body, average carbonation, dry roasted finish. A good dark lager.

Bursztynowo-rubinowe klarowne, drobna piana ecru, zostaje obrączka tylko. Aromat karmel, nuty kawy, smak wytrawny, zaznaczona goryczka, lekka palonosc na finiszu. Wysokie nasycenie. Spodziewałem się nudnego tmave a jest raczej schwartz...

Faint aroma of roasted malts. Very dark, almost black, (but perhaps it was the light). Thin but lingering creamy head. Light to medium-bodied. Mild and nicely balanced taste - this is a pleasant and thought out beer, if a bit too unobtrusive. Refreshing, and leaves you ready to open the next one.

On tap at Highlander Pub (Ottawa, ON). Black body with brown glints and a thin beige creamy head. Good malty aroma with hoppy and chocolate hints. Its well balanced malty/hoppy taste carries chocolate and nutty notes. Ends with a decent bittersweet finish. Good example of Tmavý.

Bottled. A very dark red-brown, almost black. Foamy, light brown head. Chocolate, cola, and molasses on the nose. A sweet start (cola again) with a drier finish. Surprising light, not the thick mouthfeel I was expecting. Very drinkable.

labeled as Czechvar here in the USA - quite a dark brew, darker than i expected. malty and toasty, clean with a good balance. not overly sweet despite the malt aroma, and very well put-together. excellent brew, well executed for the style.
