Prémiový tmavý ležák doplňuje tradiční nabídku piva z pivovaru Budějovický Budvar, n. p. od roku 2004. Je vyroben stejným postupem jako originální světlý ležák, za použití nejvybranějšího žateckého chmele, moravského sladu, vody čerpané ze 300 m hlubokých artéských studní a tří druhů speciálních barevných ječných sladů: mnichovského, karamelového a praženého.

Charakterizuje jej výrazně tmavá barva, suchá, jemně hořká karamelová chuť bez dominance sladkosti. Vůně je delikátní po praženém sladu.

Bottle. Pours black with a small creamy tan coloured head. Aromas of bitter chocolate, espresso and dark caramel. Quite sweet with some roasted grain in te back ground. Flavours are quite sweet withnsome roasted grain bitterness on the finish. Medium creamy mouthfeel. Liked it.

Bottle - Pours a clear, brown with a smallish head. Caramel and bread aromas. Aromas continue through the taste with sweet malts and somewhat cloying. Little carbonation, but that might be the age of the bottle. OK, but I like this style.

0.5L bottle. Poured black with perfect 2-finger head. Appetizing aroma, sweet. Taste is very pleasant and typical of the stye, a bit "oily" of a mouthfeel but not bad. I like malty brews, and this one suits me fine.

Appearance: Clear dark ruby/brown with 2 finger thick ivory/tan head. Aroma: Hint of chocolate, pepper, hay, roast malts, slightly smoky, toast, cold coffee and spicy. Taste: Low/medium sweetness and bitterness, medium sourness. Palate: Thick smooth texture, light body, prickly carbonation, astringent lingering malty, spicy, toasty and bitter cocoa like finish. Comments: Lovely and glass lace.

Bottled. A very elegant dark malty lezak with an invincible "duncan-macleodish" head. Delicious caramel and roasty notes too...

500ml bottle served cold at home.. Dark Brown witha beige head that laces down the glass. Roasty mocha aroma, tasty chocolate coffee and smokey flavour. Full bodied, which has been a quality lacking in some dark lagers I’ve had.Slightly sticky palate. Much better than I expected. Ooh, bit of farmyard aftertaste!

50cl bottle. It poured a dark brown colour with a big beige creamy head that settled down fast in the glass. The aroma is a bit acidious with notes of dark caramel, roasted malts and hints of vinegar. The flavour is bitter and tastes of roasted malts, dark caramel, and hints of citrus. It has a short aftertaste.Overall it is a bit disappointing compared to their regular lager.

A Czech Dunkel! Is it all it takes to make a Dunkel exciting? To send it across the border? Of course not. That would be insulting even to the Budweiser master brewers in České Budějovice (and almost as offensive as the flavour of the American copycat of their pale lager). These people know how to make good beer.

UPDATED: DEC 26, 2012 Deep brown topped by a light creamy head. The nose is rich and toasty with a caramel, vanilla and chocolate notes including roasted malt aroma. It gives a bitter taste with spicy and herbal flavour. Body is medium, carbon high. Coffee and chocolate with dark fruits palate. Bitter aftertaste. B@H
