a bitter aftertaste keeps me from giving this beer any kind of good rating. Malty flavored.

Aroma: sweet and rich with some spiritousness. Appearance: dark red to black with a tiny tan head. Flavour: carbon, sweetness and oily. Palate: very carbonated, spiritous and bitter aftertaste.

Brown/ reddish colour with a small beige head. Roasted malty aroma with coffee notes and a light chocolate sweetness. Light roasted malty flavor with a dark fruit sweetness and a fairly dry finish.

Sweet fruit bitter aroma. Black colour with fair head and lacing. Sweet bitter malt flavour. Fizzy palate.

27 Aug 2005 (Hunnshof) - Big choc fruit aroma. Brown-red colour, low head retention and low suds lacing. Big sweet choc fruit flavour and hoppy. Vegemite, bitter and smokey finish and a bit thin.

Pours very dark reddish brown with almost no head. Burnt caramel and sugar nose. Tastes oddly like prunes, sweet licorice, burnt sugar ... too thin and sweet for my tastes, especially because I only bought it because it’s called a "stout."

Small disappearing greige head; dark red-brown beer. Burnt-bready nose, Maillard-like. Rather sweet smell for a stout, certainly an Imperial one. Sweet liquorice taste; cola with some burnt malts and hops (presumably also burnt). Ends more grainy, roasted, but always sweet. Light, thinnish body, bit of alcohol. My Imperial *ss. Pardon my French, but this isn’t even a real stout, full stop. This is a, rather ordinary, Schwarzbier, with some alcohol steroids.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2005 Botled. Dark brown. Tarry aroma Sweet with notes of licorice and salt and fairly soft mouthfeel. Rich and rather pleasant, but possibly too sweet.
