On tap at the Hay Merchant. A black one, topped by a creamy tan head of finger thick size. Some curtains occur. There’s lots of gingerbread aromas in there, along with roasted malts and some booze. Honey cake hints. It’s full bodied and war, almost sticky on the palate. Sweet flavor with lots of gingerbread, overpowering the roasted malts, molasses and coffee. Some roasted kind of bitterness towards the end. There might be too much gingerbread going on here, but it’s sure nice anyway, at least when limited to one glass. 130825

Sampled from the tap. Pours near black with a dark head that lasted throughout the beer and laces nicely. Aroma is full of ginger and spice with dark grains and a bit of pumpernickel. Flavor starts with dark grains and chocolate and finishes full of ginger and spice. Spice has a touch heavy.

Bottle:   Black, moderate frothy beige head, nice lacing.   Assertive gingerbread on the nose, softer roasted malts and clove.   Smooth, spicy, gingerbread dominates.   Soft roast, with a little bit of clove on the backside.   Not heavy, but smooth.   This is like drinking a gingerbread cookie!   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Yeah, finishes with gingerbread.   A little simple, but clean and certainly more gingerbread like than I think any other beer I had.   Would make a great Christmas beer to share with friends.

Pours a very dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma is full of ginger and chocolate with some roasted malt. The flavor is very similar. There is a strong ginger and cinnamon character as well as some milk chocolate and roasted malt. There is also some light ash in the flavor. Medium to thick mouthfeel and low to medium carbonation. Very nice.

Nitro tap at brewery. Pitch black with a khaki head. Nose is gingerbread, spice, Christmas, and more gingerbread. Very smooth on the palate, straight gingerbread followed by light alcohol, and a creamy finish.

Black pour with a persistent light khaki head. The aroma is deep and absolutely wonderful, like chocolate chip ginger snap cookie dough. The taste, however, has far too much spice--loads of ginger and allspice, though with a nice calm sweetness of chocolate, roast, molasses, and bitter herbal tones. Wish it had less spice.
