Pours a dark copper-amber-brown color with soft off-white head. Light smoked aroma and taste. Taste is also malty rich, like a brown ale meet marzen and some smokiness in it. Notes: Humorously on the wrong tap and quickly corrected, this was going to be the most "hefeweisse-like scoth ale" I’ve ever tried!

2/22/13. Bottle during RBWG thanks to djd07. Deep amber pour with a small khaki head. Sweet malts, caramel, butterscotch, and dark fruits on the aroma, with barely a wisp of smoke if you really search for it. Rich malty flavor as well with plenty of caramel and butterscotch again, some fruitiness, not hardly any smoke at all. Not bad.

Bottle at RBWG 2013, thanks to Daniel. Pours clear amber with a light, beige foam head. Huge sweet aroma, doughy and meaty bread. Big sweet flavor, heavy malts, toffee, light leafy bitterness. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Sticky sweet finish, semi-dark fruits, light alcohol, some toffee. Decent. Big boned.

first off, why name a beer this if it isn’t smoked? dumb .. . pours a deep brown, almost purple. .. grapes and sweet tar .. . oily simple mouth .. . good but nothing special .. . . How do blind people know when they’re done wiping their ass?

Tap @ Hay Merchant. Scotch Ale, eh? Perhaps not so coincidentally was thinking the smokiness was quite peaty while drinking it. Is "The Islay Malt of Beers" taken?

Tried this on tap at Mongoose versus Cobra in Houston, TX. Dark brown beer with caramel, butterscotch and smoke notes. Don't normally like smoked beers but the smoke is very light on this one, very tasty! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap at the Saucer Downtown Houston. Dark brown with a resilient beige head. Caramel, dark fruit, bread, and very light smoke aroma. Sweet and with relatively well concealed booziness, but again, almost no smoke character whatsoever. Full bodied, lightly dry and boozy, oily. Good Scotch, and I agree that this belongs here, and not in the smoked category.

On tap at Xmas in July. Pours a cloudy amber with a small beige head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is caramel butterscotch and smoke. Thin moutfheel with a sweet caramel malt and light smokiness on the finish. Easy to drink hiding alcohol well a very impressive scotch ale from Buffalo Bayou.
