COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Buffalo Billís Alimony Ale was originally brewed for a customer going through a divorce. It has gained a reputation as one of the most eccentric brews, from reports in the Wall Street Journal and Newsweek. No longer one of the bitterest beers in America, just one of the best.

Pours a light orange-brown with a 2 finger, fluffy, off white head, that has good retention and leaves some streaky lacing. Aroma is sweet malt, light caramel, dusty fruit, cardboard, floral and light citrus hops. Flavor is stale caramel, cooked grapefruit, sweet citrus, odd vegetal notes, an odd citric acid-like tartness, old dry hay and a bit of spice. Palate is light to medium body starting out with an oily feel, immediately thinning out to be fairly light and dry with a light, but blanketing and quite sharp carbonation. Meh.

Bottle into IPA glass. Pours with a tall head that levels out quickly but doesnít dissipate completely. Smells of caramel, citrus, slight spruce, earthy, and a bit of alcohol. Pours a bit hazy and an amber color. Has a slightly sweet taste with some mild (for an IPA) bitterness. Not overly carbonated with a medium body. Slightly bitter aftertaste that lingers a while. It seems to straddle the line between IPA and ESB. I like both and found it to be an enjoyable beer.

Bottle from E street Liquor: I was a little worried buying this beer since I saw they were the same brewers who made orange blossom and the beer appeared as though there was a lot of dead yeast built up at the bottom of the bottle. Luckily, once poured there was no sign of dead yeast floating about and the beer looked healthy with a golden glow and a thin layer of frothy head. In the nose, there isnít much to be sniffed out but a minor scent of citrus like hops. The flavor is just as boring as the aroma that comes across as bland and dull with only a touch of hops that made this ale taste more like a pale ale than an IPA.

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2014 Way over carbonated; hard to keep head to a minimum, in fact donít use a glass because it is near impossible. I think if you shook up a bottle and threw it at a tank it would destroy it! Fair citrus nose, not much on taste, bitter finish. Drinkable, but this will be my first and last 6-pack.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass every time I had it. The appearance was a nice orange to amber color with a one finger white foamy head that dies basically within seconds. There is some lacing, but not much, as it leaves a bit to be desired. The smell was a nice malty yet crisp floral sweet running about my nose. The taste left a little bit to be desired with some of the previously mentioned tones scaled back a bit. The aftertaste seemed like it was overcooked caramels. The finish was quick and dry. On the palate, it sat about a medium and didnít show much of a sessionable quality to it. I found myself sipping this all of those nights. Overall, this was nothing impressive and I found myself almost wishing I didnít try this one.

Poured from 12oz bottle, pours a clear copper orange with a bubbly white head, aroma is of older hops with some basement and dirty laundry notes, the flavor is better than the aroma, not saying much though, sweeter front end with a hops, abv actually tastes bigger than 6.8, ugh, freaking waste of $15 on ipas tonight.

Rated on 02-18-2012 (Bottle) This beerís appearance is a small smooth fizzy off-white head that is fully lasting, hazy golden body, very fizzy, lively carbonation observed, and no lacing. The aroma is malty, citrus and earthy hops. The flavor is lightly bitter, citrus hops, malt, and a semi-dry finish. The mouthfeel is lively and this beer is medium bodied. For the style, this beer is far from tasting very hoppy and needs a lot more flavor for a higher rating. A very lackluster tasting beer.

I had one of these yesterday after a few other brews, so I thought Iíd hold off and rate from a fresh bottle today. Forewarned by yesterdayís experience, I poured it VERY carefully only to have the same results as before. A Huge head formed immediately, darned near filling the glass. Although I stopped pouring, it continued to grow and overflowed the glass. It was a combination of creamy and rocky... and Alive! What little I could see of the body was a hazy dark straw color, nearing amber. A half hour later, I could get some aroma, sweet grainy malt covered by some very ripe oranges, an orange peel, and a touch of the floral. The flavor was oranges, grainy, and had a bitterness that began in the middle and lasted into the finish, not very strong, but pleasant. Iím not sure if this brew, a bit lightweight for an IPA, was entertaining or aggravating, so Iím giving it a fair to middling rating.

From a bottle, clear copper color with two finger head. Nose is a little odd, citrus and caramel malts. Light body, slightly sweet, a bit of off flavors. Some funk in the finish and a bit of metallic flavors. That being said, itís not terrible, middle of the road ipa.
