COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Buffalo Billís Alimony Ale was originally brewed for a customer going through a divorce. It has gained a reputation as one of the most eccentric brews, from reports in the Wall Street Journal and Newsweek. No longer one of the bitterest beers in America, just one of the best.

Pours a light orange-brown with a 2 finger, fluffy, off white head, that has good retention and leaves some streaky lacing. Aroma is sweet malt, light caramel, dusty fruit, cardboard, floral and light citrus hops. Flavor is stale caramel, cooked grapefruit, sweet citrus, odd vegetal notes, an odd citric acid-like tartness, old dry hay and a bit of spice. Palate is light to medium body starting out with an oily feel, immediately thinning out to be fairly light and dry with a light, but blanketing and quite sharp carbonation. Meh.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Clear copper with no head and very little lacing. Looks flat except for the edges of the beer. Hop aromas come through, but itís a struggle. Hard to identify exactly which hop aromas are there. More of a bready malt smell. Some bitter hops at the front, but a sharp, nutty flavor from the malt immediately follows. The hops donít come through in the flavor. The finish is bitter, but more unclean than appealing. Medium bodied with sharp carbonation. Much more than I anticipated, given the lack of a head. Not terrible, just not great. Very average IPA.

12 oz bottle. (Whole Foods) Las Vegas, NV.
Cloudy reddish brown colour with a small white creamy head. Dark unfresh hops... thatís what it is. Unfortunately thereís no freshness info on the bottle. Whole Foods wouldnít sell an old beer... The flavour is dark hops, moderate bitterness and stale maltiness. Bad beer.

Pours a rusty orange color with white head. Medium bitter finish, but too malty for my taste

"Citrus and pine up front, with a lingering spicey bitterness. Alcohol very well masked. This beer doesnít do a whole lot to stand out, but does nothing wrong either. Probably the best Buffalo Billís beer Iíve had unless one is escaping me... I dig the Collective Soul album cover label :)"

Bottle, amber pour, no real head, nose is grainy, taste is grainy, not a very good beer.

Bottle into IPA glass. Pours with a tall head that levels out quickly but doesnít dissipate completely. Smells of caramel, citrus, slight spruce, earthy, and a bit of alcohol. Pours a bit hazy and an amber color. Has a slightly sweet taste with some mild (for an IPA) bitterness. Not overly carbonated with a medium body. Slightly bitter aftertaste that lingers a while. It seems to straddle the line between IPA and ESB. I like both and found it to be an enjoyable beer.

Bottle from E street Liquor: I was a little worried buying this beer since I saw they were the same brewers who made orange blossom and the beer appeared as though there was a lot of dead yeast built up at the bottom of the bottle. Luckily, once poured there was no sign of dead yeast floating about and the beer looked healthy with a golden glow and a thin layer of frothy head. In the nose, there isnít much to be sniffed out but a minor scent of citrus like hops. The flavor is just as boring as the aroma that comes across as bland and dull with only a touch of hops that made this ale taste more like a pale ale than an IPA.

UPDATED: JUL 1, 2014 Way over carbonated; hard to keep head to a minimum, in fact donít use a glass because it is near impossible. I think if you shook up a bottle and threw it at a tank it would destroy it! Fair citrus nose, not much on taste, bitter finish. Drinkable, but this will be my first and last 6-pack.

Reviewed from notes. This was poured into a pint glass every time I had it. The appearance was a nice orange to amber color with a one finger white foamy head that dies basically within seconds. There is some lacing, but not much, as it leaves a bit to be desired. The smell was a nice malty yet crisp floral sweet running about my nose. The taste left a little bit to be desired with some of the previously mentioned tones scaled back a bit. The aftertaste seemed like it was overcooked caramels. The finish was quick and dry. On the palate, it sat about a medium and didnít show much of a sessionable quality to it. I found myself sipping this all of those nights. Overall, this was nothing impressive and I found myself almost wishing I didnít try this one.
