COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Buffalo Bill’s Alimony Ale was originally brewed for a customer going through a divorce. It has gained a reputation as one of the most eccentric brews, from reports in the Wall Street Journal and Newsweek. No longer one of the bitterest beers in America, just one of the best.

Pours jewel-clear amber with a small white head. Very pure aromas of citrusy American hop varieties, a bit of caramel, and some pleasant fruitiness. Taste is somewhat strong, balanced slightly towards the sweet end, a very clean bitterness. A very pleasant-drinking IPA. Though not extremely complex, it emphasizes what is great about the style without exaggerating. The cleanness of this beer really stands out to me; it’s almost lager-like in its crispness, despite its evident strength.

12oz twist off cap bottle pours clear copper with gold hues and off white head. The aroma has notes of spicy hops, faint malt sweetened citrus and little else. The taste, even though the age of this bottle is in question, is kind of snappy with a nice level of spicy to earthy to citrusy to floral hops. There’s a decent amount of hop bitterness going on before earthy slightly roasty malts come to the surface. I should probably get a really fresh sample of this at some point as I’m likely to enjoy it.

An unusual beer. On top of the grapefruity hops was sweetness and a sharp flavor. High carbonation. Serving: Bottle

Bottle: Pale copper color with a small beige head. Aroma is malty, some faint citrus and florals. Pleasant taste of citrus and grapefruit, light florals, and caramel malt. Not a real intense flavor, but good.

Bottle. Too foamy really. Beer foamed right out of the glass and spilled over the table. Not much aroma, a little citrus and a little pine,Light bodied, more hoppiness. A pleasant finish

12 oz bottle This was purchased at Total Wine in Western Henrico. The ale poured a very attractive deep honey color with some cloudiness. The head was extreme the white frothy foam filling the glass and more. The ale would be considered having a lively to excessive carbonation. Some citrus on the nose but very light. A drinkable IPA but not in the exceptional class. The finish was smooth with some bitternes on the tongue.

Bottled. Poured medium orange with a spotty cap of khaki head. The aroma picked up orange meat and adjuncty sweetness (mostly corn), with peppery, raw alcohol around.. didn’t strike me as much of an IPA, or anything enticing for that matter. The flavor found oranges, corn, and peppery alcohol again.. finished tacky and rather hot.. not good. Medium-bodied and well-carbonated on the palate.. smooth, buttery feel until the middle, where it became sharp and unpleasant.

PhillyCraft (598) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 29, 2012
Poured a hazy golden yellow. Huggeee head and good lacing. Aromas of champagne, brett, lemon zest, faint bubblegum, belgian grapes. Taste is not so great with an ashy dominant flavor with a touch of bitter hops. No flavor in fiinish or left on tongue. So, so, bitter. Taste ruined the pleasant aromas for me. Sub par considering it was brewed in Cali. Heady hops must have been out, schwag it is.

Bottle. Orange hazy color. Minimal off white head. Not big in the aroma department. Has a fairly bitter astringent finish. Nice beer but worth getting again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
