DocLock (4047), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA May 12, 2008 Bottle from State Line. Pours onyx with 3 fingers of light brown head that is very clingy, and great lacing. The nose is wonderful. like a handful of freshly picked blueberries, right down to that white peppery note, plus hints of dark roasty malt and cacao. The flavor is dark malty, with a solid natural blueberry flavor, plus some chocolate late. I loved this beer, and I plan on making it a regular spring/summer occupant of the DLBF.
Retorp (2148), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 Courtesy of Matta. The aroma is comprised, as one might expect if they carefully investigated the malt bill of the beer, interviewed the principles involved with its creation and production or read the beer’s label, mostly of a strong blueberry aroma.
Chocolate is present as well, but it a chalky, low-grade version or rather it gives off the aroma of one. The blueberry itself smells a touch chemical in origin, but I do not know that it is. The body is full black and supports a diminishing, but creamy mocha head. The first sip is quite sweet. Chocolate, coffee and blueberry, which again seem to have the slightly bitter and alcohol-tinged taint of a chemical source, make up the bulk of the middle flavor ranges. The finish is mostly comprised of dark fruit and chocolate but the aftertaste is of perfume and chemical solvents. The mouth feel is full and thick though which makes it enjoyable to swallow if not necessarily to taste.
Palidor19 (1207), Brandon, Florida, USA Jul 17, 2008 kinda a unique beer but in a good way, the taste of cocoa and coffee is there but the flavor of blueberry is kinda interesting in the overall flavor. nick76 (1970), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 17, 2008 The aroma is nice with blueberry, coffee, toasted malt, and chocolate. The appearance is dark brown with a tan head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is average. Overall it’s OK. MaltDawg (224), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 10, 2008 12 oz bottle from Grapes and Barley.
Big blueberry aroma from open bottle that dissipated to notes of roast and chocolate malts. Black with big creamy tan head. Roast malt flavors with some blueberry in the background with a moderate hop bitterness. Medium body with low carbonation. Medium dry finish with some nice roast and bitterness lingering. maniac (1921), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jul 3, 2008 Bottle on 07/03/2008. Black body with a large creamy tan head. Roasted malt, chocolate and blueberries in the aroma. More roasted and chocolate malt with blueberries shining through followed by a mild bitter finish. Certainly not overpowered by fruit, and well balanaced. Medium full body with moderate carbonation.
