4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 davidm (1359) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - FEB 26, 2010
Bottle. Amazing flavour, it really works for me. Aromas of liquorice, and roasted malt. Taste has a sweet start, with bitterness taking over for a long finish. Palate is velvety, with a medium-to-full body. Black colour, with a frothy white head.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 RSRIZZO (1679) - Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA - OCT 29, 2009
Poured from a 25.4oz bottle into an English pint at 45°. Color is a near black amber with good carbonation and a tall light tan head. Aroma of yeast, sweet fruits and roasted malt. Taste is crisp with a mild sweetness. Starting with a lighter medium body it goes down with a crisp feel. Finish is a mild malt sweetness that gives off flavors of raisin, vanilla and a light toffee taste then an easy bitterness rolls in. After taste is dry and slightly bland. Overall its a tasty brew but leans more on the Belgian flavors then Stout.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Lunkie (1129) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - FEB 25, 2006
Strong sweet malt aroma with candy sweetness. Black colour with cream head and goof lacing. Strong malt sweet flavour. Smooth palate.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 bluevegie (2926) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 7, 2005
Black in body with light brown head. Soy sauce and harsh malt aromas. Mouthfeel is smooth and medium bodied, aniseed, floating particles, even burnt tar, Wheat in there ? Hints of Vegemite and pine, I like stouts but my home brew is probably a lot smoother and bitter.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 Rciesla (5499) - Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA - JUN 3, 2008
Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a tan head. Aroma and flavor is sweet malt. Some burnt malt in both aspects, no etoh. eh.
2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 UnholyBrewing (517) - Central Florida(Upper Hell), Florida, USA - AUG 28, 2009
...bottle into pint. Well, another weird beer from the place in the middle of nowhere. Weird burnt things on the nose, with some slight dark malt notes. Black color with a very small brown head that goes away quickly. Not smooth and creamy enough to be a real stout. It wasn’t too bad though considering, I mean it was alright, and drinkable. But I only had one, so I don’t really know. I bet it’s better on tap.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 6/20 Linc (736) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - SEP 12, 2005
Aroma of devon and assorted dodgy smoked small goods, a small amount of roast choc and green pinecones. Nice mouthfeel and presence, with some roasty character but the boiled meat flavour, very wrong tasting, just plain wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong! No beer should taste like meat! Piney bitterness is a bit unpleasant on the finish.
2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 AlphaOne (142) - AUSTRALIA - OCT 10, 2004
Black colouration, brownish head. Spicy roasted malt aroma, with fruityness, cherry mainly. Toasted barley, very bitter, coffee, some fruit and choc, light yeastyness, but roasted malts are sickly strong.
1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 eczematic (1297) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - SEP 29, 2003
UPDATED: OCT 6, 2003 not good. according to the brochure this was a traditional german style stout?! burnt, sour, and tangy with a vegemite aftertaste. little bit of chocolate hints at what might have been. rer8: not that bad, thin, salty/roasty and bitter, but definitely reeking of vegemite.
1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 mullet (849) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JAN 18, 2004
Black as black, with a brown head. Choc-banana aroma with a bit of solvent and some grainy roast malt.
The first mouthful is shockingly roasty and tarry - like Coopers or Southwark on steroids. As I drank more it became more and more salty with a bit of sourness. Reminded me a lot of Dutch licorice in the end, and I don't like Dutch licorice. Way too salty and burnt and not enough malt. Way out of balance.
