Ernest (4186), Boulder, Colorado, USA Sep 4, 2006 Draught at the brewery.
Head is mostly diminishing.
Body is medium brown.
Aroma is moderately malty (cookie, caramel), with notes of peat/whiskey, bubble gum, brown sugar, toffee.
Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter.
Medium to full body, watery/syrupy texture, lively/soft carbonation.
Oddly enough, the aroma reminded me more of a Scotch ale than a Belgian. But either way, it’s a decent enough beer for its size. ratman197 (2190), Arvada, Colorado, USA Mar 5, 2006 On tap @ Bull and Bush poured a clear reddish copper with a lasting amber head. Aromas of brown sugar, dark fruit and a hint of spice. Palate was medium bodied and dry. Flavors of toffee, spices and a hint of chocolate with a smooth finish. A decent beer, but not what I think of as a triple. alaskanwarren (269), Edgewater, Colorado, USA Feb 22, 2006 Mahogany color with creamy head. Really rich creamy feel to the palate. The aroma is caramel and toffee. So is the taste. Also a bit of a smokey, toasted aroma too. Hints of esters I thought this was an interesting beer, and I did enjoy it, but it was hard for me to think of it as tripel. I just didn’t get those citrusy and estery vibes that I usually feel from a tripel. Maybe I need to do more research on what an Imperial tripel really is, but my brain and palate didn’t get along in this one. Aubrey (2554), Denver, Colorado, USA Feb 22, 2006 Draft at brewery: Deep, dark burgundy; somewhat cloudy. Mouthfeel was syrupy and soft, with hardly any carbonation to speak of. Super-sweet malts, with multi-grained crust flavors and aromatic toast. Residual sticky sweetness. Some slight Belgian-esque esters, but they seemed a little restrained. Bitterness was light. Drinkable, but this one didn’t do much for me.
