COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In the brown ale category, this malty beauty shows its local spirit with a distinctive maroon tint. With an intricate balance of both chocolate and caramel malts and an abundance of premium hops, this beer is extremely complex with a very smooth aftertaste.

Dark amber with medium off-white head. Caramel malt, medium body, low carbonation, and some big bubble lacing. Taste is caramel malt and some nuts.

>> Clear amber pour with good lacing. Nose is caramel, no off flavors like some of the others on tap. Taste is bitter, not chemically harsh like its brethren, lots of red apple though. Bitter palate with lemon water, tannic red apple. Eh.

Sampled during CBC 2013. Maroon brown pour (see what I did there?) with a small tan head. Light aroma of chocolate, nuttiness, and hint of earthiness. Light chocolate flavor, nutty, malt bitterness. Not bad.

Draft. A nice attempt to get a brown ale with a reddish hue. Ends up a little thin. Nothing to run from, but I’ll look for other options on my next trip.

This was tasted at The Camel in Richmond. August is beer month across Virginia. Local beers were featured at the best bars in town. The head was a tan color and quickly disappeared. The beer poured a deep brown that is attractively clear. Your nose picks up coffee and toffee. There is also a hint of tobacco detected. Active carbonation with no lacing. There is a strange astringent taste at the finish.

Clear light brown with a thin off-white head. Soft malt aroma. The flavor is light malt sweetness but it leaves you wanting more. Thin bodied; weak.

Tap at brewery. Pours clear brown with a medium, fizzy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is nutty and caramel malt, woody hops, and light fruity esters (dates). Flavor is light chocolate and nutty malt, light bitterness, and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation, low warmth.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear mahogany brown with a light tan head. Aroma of sweet malt, crystal malt, and light citrus. Flavor of sweet malts, a touch of nutty/roasty brown malts, and some floral hops. A bit sweet but a pretty good brown ale. 7/4/6/4/14 [3.5/5]

American Brown ale with more hopping than found in British Browns. I actually like the malt in this beer even though the hopping is a tad forward to really have the malt shine.
