A dark cola brown coloured beer with a weak, off-white head. Light toasted malt nose, vinous with a hint of liquorice. A bitter dark malt taste, strong coffee and bitter chocolate, and a vinous, fruity flavour. A long bitter finish. (Cask - The Ouse Amateur Sailing Club, King’s Lynn, Norfolk).

Cask@St Albans BF 06. Quite sweet and caramelly, subtle notes of mollasses. Some green apple and some light sulfuric eggyness, which suggests it wasn’t quite as fresh/ready as it could have been. Some cereally and nutty malt notes also noticed. Tasted quite OK in the end though.

Cask (gravity dispense) at St Albans Beer Festival, September 2006. A very dark bitter - deep chestnut colour. Slightly bready malt aroma. Quite bitter on the palate with cooking chocolate and some sharp berry fruit. There’s a distinctly sour pickup on the finish. Treads the line between a bitter and an old ale, almost straying into traditional porter territory too. Whatever category it belongs in, I thought this was a very interesting beer and a promising early offering form a fairly new brewery.
