Pours dark black with off white head on tap at brewpub, aroma had notes of toffee, dark fruit and roasted notes, lots of nice orange, citrus, grapefruit along with pine and grassy notes. Taste is smooth with orange, citrus, grapefruit notes, some bitter pine leading nicely into the roast, coffee, and dark chocolate finishing bitter, slightly sweet and dry.

draft. roast-heavy cheese mold hop nose. rough body with high acid and bitterness. roast and hop acids are both harsh and overt, resembling herbal soy sauce with lasting oiliness. forward and bold, basically a common stout with rough malt hopped to IPA level.

Tap @ brewpub. Deep brown appearance with a creamy tan head. Dark malty and fairly hoppy nose. Slightly lower carbonation. Dark malts with a good hoppy bitterness. Tasty dark finish. Pretty good.

On tap at Bull and Bush poured a clear dark brown nearly black with a lasting brown head. Aromas of tangerine, pink grapefruit, pine, earthiness, charcoal and roastiness. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of charcoal, roastiness, tangerine, pink grapefruit, pine and light earthiness with a smooth dry lingering roasty bitter finish. Way hoppier than No Coast IPA.

Tap at the brewpub - pretty much tastes like a blend of their No Coast IPA and Stonehenge Stout - relatively dry and roasty, with woody hops in the mix that compliment that character well - the bitterness of the hops works pretty well with the bitterness of the black malt - however, the diacetyl I have come to expect from at least 50% of the beers from this brewer shows itself here, and not even the potent hops can cover it - buttery through the finish - enjoyable up to that point.
