4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 millerclmb (44) - Boulder, Missouri, USA - JUN 24, 2004
This beer was a suprise. The aroma was quite hoppy and smelled as if it would be not balanced to my tastes...but I was prooved wrong with the first taste. Some how the olfactory senses were overshadowed (maybe I had a cold) by and incrediblly well balanced choclatly maltiness. The balance was nutty and memorable. I’d order another one...and did.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 fly (1358) - austin, Tejas, Alabama, USA - OCT 7, 2003
GABF & Falling Rock. Small world of difference in the harsher taste at fest vs the mellowing of cask at Rock. Agree that this one separates itself from of the handful of others that I've had at B&B. Not that all were bad, but enjoyed the up-front bitter in the hops. Quite an attack. Even after a run through the fest offerings this one stood out. Much better to have a taste later at FR and see a bit more in a pint. It did seem thinner than previous taste, but I suppose that's what casking can do. Certainly altered the brutal hop attack. Not the best IPA, perhaps more entertained by B&B wigs and humor.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 JorisPPattyn (6726) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - OCT 2, 2003
(cask/ Man IPA) Dull amber-orange, slight haze; yellowish, quite reasonable head. Flowery nose, hoppy, bread dough. Spice-flavoured bread, notes of ginger, plenty of (British) hops, orangezest, nearly tart. Medium bodied, long peppery aftertaste. A relief from the other super-dull B&B beers tasted.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 lemonlovr (188) - Orland Park, Illinois, USA - OCT 1, 2003
Cask conditioned at the Falling Rock, Denver. Hoppy, bitter aroma. Coloration is golden copper. Taste is slightly floral up front with a stong hoppy finish. Average mouthfeel.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 3fourths (6399) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - SEP 29, 2003
Cash at the Falling Rock, Denver, GABF 2003. Slightly cloudy amber appearance. Roasty wood, vanilla, and nutty hop aroma. Nutty, roasted wood. Good overall spectrum of flavor, robust, and subtly woodish. Nice, but not a typical US IPA. Lacking just a little bit in the body.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Volgon (2715) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - SEP 29, 2003
UPDATED: JAN 7, 2004 GABF 2003 (as Man Beer): The guys and girls from this brewery, wear orange jumpsuits to the GABF and run around making a lot of noise. Somewhere between amber and orange with a small head. Deep earthy, grassy aroma. Full bodied and bitter all the time including its long aftertaste.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 PrinceofNessus (236) - Norman, Oklahoma, USA - SEP 29, 2003
Cask Conditioned. The beer is a hazy copper color, with a large frothy head that is slow to go away. The aroma has a hint of wood in it but smelled primarialy of caramel, and there is also a nutty smell this could have been caused by the cask though. THe initial taste is slightly sweet, and bitter, then it becomes hoppy. The finish is sweet but still bitter. overall it's a good beer.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 AustinMilbarge (681) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JUN 29, 2003
Fort Collins Brew Fest 2003: The aroma and flavor were dominated by hops. My guess would be Cascade hops. Definite grapefruit/citrus notes.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Aubrey (3192) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - DEC 12, 2002
UPDATED: OCT 26, 2003 Warm, smooth and creamy malt flavors swarmed my palate. Sweet, bitter and perfumey hops up front; slowly built into a healthy bitterness. Somewhat crisp in the finish. Sweet/malt/hop combo is nice. Very drinkable and very tasty. CASK: All the great things as above, but with cask qualities, of course (soft carbonation, creamy, yeasty). Notes of licorice. Good stuff!
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20 Ernest (5183) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUN 9, 2002
UPDATED: JAN 12, 2004 Draught. Body is light amber. Aroma is
lightly malty (cookie), lightly hoppy (grapefruit, flowers), with a note
of diacetyl. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly
bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, velvety/creamy texture, lively carbonation. Doesn't do much
for me; light uninteresting aroma and citric flavor. Nice mouthfeel
though.
