3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
(From old 2010 notes.) This has a really fine, off-white/light brown, soapy head with a dark brown colored body. Itís pretty solid and deep. The aroma... whoah... like whiskey/bourbon, alcohol, wood, and sweetness. Man, it has a great aroma. Wow. It smells too good to drink. Especially since the flavor isnít as good as the aroma lets on. It has some sort of a cherry/liquor finish with an alcohol and roasted malt flavor hitting you plainly in the face. Overall, although itís a great beer, my advice: just inhale this beer and leave your taste buds out of it.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Apparently this was a 2010 vintage aged in a 23 year Pappy Van Winkle barrel, too bad its not bottled, the geeks would have a field day. Dark brown color and served in a goblet. Smells like bourbon but not overdone, very nice. Flavor was bourbon, wood, delicious brown ale, vanilla, good stuff.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pour on tap at Avery Strong Ale, dark brownish/hazy pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of bourbon, vanilla, oak and some slight caramel, hints of earth and spice notes but pretty one dimensional. Taste is pretty nice but not much to it, some bourbon, vanilla notes go into some oak and caramel notes, finishing fairly sweet.

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Draft at the brewpub.
Pours a very dark brown thatís almost black in the glass Completely opaque with very faint mahogany edges. Half finger beige head that quickly settles into thin ring. Not much in way of lacing.
Sweet boozy aroma with lots of bourbon but only slight oak. Lots of bourbon and not much else.
Medium bodied with a blast of bourbon heat and sweetness that lingers throughout over the sweeter malt notes into a dry hot finish with plenty of warmth in the chest. Underneath is slightly smokey with hints of caramel and toffee but this is overpowered by strong bourbon. Very one dimensional and too hot for me.

2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Murky hazy chestnut brown, with an aroma of oak bourbon, or some similar liquor. Taste was pretty smooth bourbon booze, some brown & caramel malt, featuring a lingering booze warmth in the back of the flavor. Booze wasnít too heavy overall, but it dominated the other flavors enough.

Imperial Brown ale. What a concept. Of course I liked it. My only complaint is that it is a little too soft, sorta flat in other words. I didn't find Ernesto's lively carbonation in this.
