Apparently this was a 2010 vintage aged in a 23 year Pappy Van Winkle barrel, too bad its not bottled, the geeks would have a field day. Dark brown color and served in a goblet. Smells like bourbon but not overdone, very nice. Flavor was bourbon, wood, delicious brown ale, vanilla, good stuff.

Imperial Brown ale. What a concept. Of course I liked it. My only complaint is that it is a little too soft, sorta flat in other words. I didn't find Ernesto's lively carbonation in this.

sampler at Bull & Bush on 9/30/11. cloudy brown pour with a thin tan head. whiskey nose with dark fruits, oak and roasted malts. medium body with sweet malts and more whiskey. sweet warming finish with more dark fruit notes.

At Bull & Bush with Stephen. Pours brown ruby red. Aroma is pungent figs, big malt, cardboard. Taste is card lard, big nice sweet figs, burnt sugar.

On tap at Avery Strong Ale Fest poured a clear reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, toffee, light vanilla and light fruittiness. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a smooth finish. Flavors of bourbon, oak, toffeelight carmel and light cocoa with a smooth lingering bourbon finish.

(From old 2010 notes.) This has a really fine, off-white/light brown, soapy head with a dark brown colored body. It’s pretty solid and deep. The aroma... whoah... like whiskey/bourbon, alcohol, wood, and sweetness. Man, it has a great aroma. Wow. It smells too good to drink. Especially since the flavor isn’t as good as the aroma lets on. It has some sort of a cherry/liquor finish with an alcohol and roasted malt flavor hitting you plainly in the face. Overall, although it’s a great beer, my advice: just inhale this beer and leave your taste buds out of it.

Tap @ Avery, doing the 10th Annual Boulder Strong Ale Festival. Pours dark brown with a offwhite head. Aroma of roasted malt, bourbon, oak, tartness. Taste is malts, caramel, bourbon, oak, molasses, coffee. Medium to full body, soft carbonation, slight alcoholic finish. 090312

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2004 Massively chewy malts; residual unfermentables possibly. Wafty malt aromas were very pleasant. Some hop bitterness, but not enough to balance the sweet and heavy malts, IMO. Big caramel sweetness. Only a slight alcohol nip, though I'm sure there was plenty in there. Sweet, thick and meaty. Rerate: Deep-dark brown and clear. Smooth and mildly carbonated; kind of lightish. Sweet vanilla, caramel, whiskey and wood notes. Interesting brew.

Pour on tap at Avery Strong Ale, dark brownish/hazy pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of bourbon, vanilla, oak and some slight caramel, hints of earth and spice notes but pretty one dimensional. Taste is pretty nice but not much to it, some bourbon, vanilla notes go into some oak and caramel notes, finishing fairly sweet.

UPDATED: MAR 7, 2004 Draught. Body is medium brown. Aroma is moderately malty (nuts, caramel), with notes of cask wood and whiskey. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation.
