Draft at GABF. Pours a deep red with hints of brown. Nose is very earthy, light floral notes then noticeable clovey notes. There is a certain herbal nature to this as well. Earth dominates. On tasting, the clove notes are more subdued but the earthy notes really come across, as does an interesting squash type note as well. Pretty cool beer using odd ingredients. Nice.

GABF 2011. Pours clear ruby with a medium, fizzy off-white head, medium retention with good lacing. Aroma is vegetables, sweet beets, straw malt, spicy hops and black pepper. Flavor is malt, lightly sweet vegetables, fruity esters, light alcohol and a dry finish. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation.

On tap at the brewpub, pour is nice dark brown, the taste is very unbitter, for a triple style you expect it to be quite bitter, but I believe the turnip and the beats in this beer really hide the bitterness and the beer is extremely smooth, I really quite enjoyed this, in the back end of this beer the triple notes are noticeable but the turnip and beats really come through

Dark, rich beet color with little to no head. Aroma of root vegetables, clove, fruits, black cherry and plum, soft spices. Medium to full bodied, slight alcohol on finish. Slight syrupy aspect. Flavor has soft molasses, caramel, beet, clove, dark fruits. I thought this was pretty nice.
