Tap at the brewery. Deep, cloudy orange amber with small white head. Nose shows some light florals, pine, citrus, a bit of sweeter caramel and toast. Slightly spicy, rye-like finish. Solid and easy drinking, if not bursting with hop aromas and flavors.

Pours soft reddish-orange with one finger of sandy tan head. Nose is interesting, lots of candied peach and apricot and some menthol. Caramel and sweet malt. Hints of strawberry. Flavor is kind of rich, caramel and dextrinous malt with a lightly citric bitterness. Fairly clean, some grapefruit. Lightly piney. Medium body and bitterness.

Served on draft at the brewpub. Mmm... 3 3.5’s so far. Let’s see if I can continue the trend (rating in notes but already determined). Pours a hazy amber color with a medium sized creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of citrus hops and pale malts. The taste is citrus hops, toffee malts, toasted malts. Medium bodied with a lingering bitterness. Oh, SO close, but I can’t continue the 3.5 trend. Oh well. Since I have the highest rating on this beer, Bull City should mail me a growler or three. Just kidding.... mostly.

Pint at the brewery. This is bright orange with a good head. It’s a nicely hopped IPA, though very British smelling. There is not a lot of citrus, it’s more woody with apple undertones and something like berries. The flavor is medium-hoppy. It’s bittersweet and easy drinking. Good balance and clean flavor make this enjoyable enough.

Draft at the brewery. This is the first beer I’ve had from this new brewery. It pours dark for an IPA and very cloudy. Nothing visibly floating in it, just a dense haze. Small head but it lasted the whole beer. Peppery spice notes to the hops in both the nose and flavor, and a lot of sweet malt mixed in. Fresh hoppiness dominates the finish and leaves me wanting another sip. The mouthfeel is a bit flatter than ideal for this style, and is hopefully something that will improve in the future...I believe this was the first batch of this beer released. A nice, solid IPA.
