From way, way yonder, we present something cutting edge. Well, maybe cutting edge. Ground breaking? Perhaps. Experimental? Definitely. If the West Coast brewers can brew a black India PALE Ale, then we can brew a blonde Stout. Wa Wa is a beer brewed to Stout specifications, with the exception of the darker grain plus a little secret. Body, hops, alcohol and carbonation are the same as a classic Stout. What is a stout without its roasted malts? Its Wa Wa Yonda Blonda Stout. Close your eyes, take a sip, and you decide. Is it a Blonde Stout? Named after the Carr family farm, off Chapel Hill Road called Wa Wa Yonda farm. The street Wa WA Ave is there now. Hops: Northern Brewer, Goldings

Pint at the bar of the brewery. Pours a orange-tinted hazy gold with a formidable white head and good lacing. Nose shows off the easygoing hops, particularly the Goldings. Also a sort of sourdough bread and brioche thing as well as some slightly sour lactic notes and citrus (Meyer lemon, orange). Taste add sweetness, slight bitterness, and a hint of lactic sourness. At the risk of reducing its taste to its name, it has elements of an English blonde ale and a stout. A bit of an odd bird at first, but I warmed up to it as it warmed. Points for creativity.

On tap at BCBB. A bit gimmicky for these guys, who usually stick to session styles and the like. Cloudy deep gold pour, light and elegant carbonation. Some earthy deli bread and modest hops in the nose, hints of citrus but more bitterness than anything else. Flavors were dusty and a bit smoky/earthy, which is I suppose where the "stout" comes in. More like a very earthy, grainy, occasionally spicy table beer with a dose of bright hops.

Draught. Pours a clear light amber color with a moderate white head. I got almost no nose on this one. Taste was slightly sour, but very light and very much like a blonde ale. Tiny bit of a floral note on the finish. Never would have guessed stout. Ever.

Tap at BCBB. Fairly clear orange amber with thin white lace. Nose is citrus, floral, faint roast. Floral, grassy, sweet flowers, light caramel, some light roast but not as "stouty" as I expected. Medium fairly dry bitter finish.

Pours a soft mango flesh amber with one finger of eggshell white head. Nose is nice, soft fruit with a touch of citrus rind and malty sweetness. Some toasted bread and subtle grain (munich?). Flavor takes an almost Belgian twist..... Spicy with some fruity notes. An interesting crispness/acidity. Moderate to prominent bitterness on the finish.
