COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We present the second in a series of three beers based on one recipe. The Youngen Horny is an English style Barley Wine (all grain, no grapes) made in the traditional British smooth style. Named Barley Wine for its high alcoholic strength, this once a year brew started out with nearly 850 lbs of malt squeezed into our seven barrel mash tun. As the grain came to the lip of the tun and occasionally spilled over while we stirred the mash, we dreamed of the pleasure it would bring one day. We pushed our system to its limits and six weeks later arrived at a deliciously balanced 9.5% abv beer with fruity fig and caramel aromas, a light toasty bread crust quality, and a rich intensely long finish. Barley Wines are a badge of honor among brewers and we proudly unveil ours with the hope you enjoy the balance, elegance and pleasure this beer provides. Youngen Horny is served in a brandy snifter because any more than a handful is a waste.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a bright amber, cloudy with a medium beige head. Looks inviting. Nose shows a fair amount of hops and complex sweet malts. Notes of citrus, bread, hops, toffee, and a tad of creaminess. Great fresh, and I’m betting it will age well.

Served on draft at the brewpub. Awesome name. I can relate. Pours a hazy dark amber color with a medium sized creamy off-white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of big toffee notes, toasted malts, citrus and stone fruits. The taste is toffee, berries, caramel, citrus, herbal hops. Medium bodied.

On tap at the brewpub, Derm. Fairly bright copper, with sort of an oily looking body and a moderate head. Soft notes of toffee and shortbread, deeply sweet and potent. Mouthfeel is a bit slick but not especially sticky. Flavors are big and boozy, at times too sharp. Aggressive and hoppy in places, but not coming together especially well to me. Very youthful but may come together in time.

TURDFERGUSON (2753) - Carrboro, North Carolina, USA - JAN 16, 2012
Draft at the brewery. Fairly cloudy reddish amber with little to no head. Nose is light toffee, dextrinous malts, light tartness, booze. Flavor is mild hops, more booze, some sweetness. Did not really care for this fresh, I hope the brandy barrel adds some more rich, sweet character as this is a bit lacking at the moment.

Pours murky reddish orange with one finger of sandy yellow head. Nose shows caramel and rich bready malt notes. Some fig and fruit. Interesting flavor, rich with caramel and dextrinous malt. Dark fruits and sweet bread with a medium hop bite, warming finish.
