BrianK (73), New Jersey, USA Jun 15, 2008 Oh yea first rating. I thought this beer was pretty solid. Dark color definately from the barrels. Crazy mouthfeel. Heavy cabernet flavor followed by sourness and funk. Dry finish. I enjoyed this one.
JoeMcPhee (3807), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Oct 4, 2008 Deep amber-brown beer with a thin white head. Aroma is very nice... lots of soft tartness over a fairly rich vineous backbone. Cherry/berry fruitiness along with some light oaky character and a soft acetic character. Quite a creamy palate with a bit of wheaty flavour. Lingering raspberry/cherry fruitiness that works very well with the soft funky acidity. Oaky and quite interesting. notalush (2071), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Oct 3, 2008 Thanks a ton to puzzl for sharing this - very hazy amber beer - an explosion of oak and cabernet (grape skin tannins, toasted oak) in the aroma, with light funkiness - a bit of acetone up front, but that quickly fades - tart cherries, fruit skins, and a bit of leathery character - the cab comes through quite a bit, and the funkiness adds a unique counterpoint to this - very dry, oaky finish - quite an interesting beer. puzzl (1817), New York, New York, USA Oct 2, 2008 Bottle from Kramer. Beautiful aroma, rich and fruity, some tartness from the wine barrels, grape skins and buttery oak. Very complex. Flavor is very oaky, rich, light tart, with a wonderful, easy drinking body. Reminds me of early Jolly Pumpkin stuff, before the beers were too tart, and more tart forward. Awesome stuff. Rciesla (813), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Sep 27, 2008 Bottle from the brewery. Pours an amber brown body with a creamy khaki colored head with great retention. Vinous, amazing cabernet aroma, and wild yeasts and brett in this one. Flavor is a sweet but dry sharp cherry flavor with a complementary spice and woodiness to kick. Incredible beer. kkearn (685), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 25, 2008 750mL bottle. Pours murky brownish-amber, capped with a moderate sized brown head. Nice tart and musty aroma, with green apple, grape tannins, wild yeast, band-aid, spice, wood, and a little cherry. Flavor begins with wild yeast, which is complimented nicely by spice, grain, honey, lavender, red wine, and wood. Long-lasting tart finish. Another really nice offering from Bullfrog!
